I always felt like netrunning was one of the most under explored parts of the game. The lore paints the Net as a vast and dangerous digital abyss filled with rogue AIs beyond the Blackwall and netrunners who push themselves to the edge until they end up dying in their chairs yet you as the player barely gets to experience any of it firsthand except for one scripted moment. Imagine if you could enter the Net freely and breach the Blackwall to uncover illegal hacks, or fight other netrunners and speak to rogue AIs.

Cyberpunk goes out of its way to show that Jackie was completely out of his league even before the heist began.
He was never going to make it to the Big Leagues; his tragedy is that V is so genuinely important that even their best friend won’t be a footnote in their lives.
It’s really quite clever. Jackie seems like a shadow in V’s life, but the inverse is true by the time you get to the end - Jackie is entirely swallowed by V’s monumental status and shadow by the end of the game. Did you think about him even once in the final act, unless explicitly prompted?
