@mhp_guy As a kid, the Cabela's mail-order catalog was our go-to for affordable, good quality outdoor stuff. Transitioning that business to online made sense to me, but the push into retail never did. 🤷‍♂️

I walked into Cabela’s tonight for the first time in 5 years. I notice the sign also says Bass Pro. Huh. Whatever. I walk in and they say “welcome to outdoor world!” Uh, ok. Three names? Wasn’t the merger a decade ago? There are more employees than customers. Total crickets. 77,000 empty square feet. The dude at the entry gives me the hard sell to join their rewards program, while the outside air is still on my neck. I’m just here for a knife dude. I won’t be back for another 5 years. I wrangle from his grasp. As we go to leave they push me to join their rewards program yet again. What a trainwreck. This is what poor management looks like.

@Camp4 I'd say the peak was mid-90's. The five years immediately preceding most folks having the internet.

One of my contrarian takes: Society peaked in the 80s, and it’s been in slow decline ever since. It was the last era of widespread optimism. You can feel it in the music and movies. “Excess meets innocence.” The 80s also mark the end of the analog world—local economies, in-person everything, and a certain forced simplicity. Malls, movie theaters, magazines, and BMX. Then, beginning in the 90s, came the tidal wave of tech: Mobile phones The internet Social media AI All incredible innovations, with lots of positives. But on the whole I think they’re *net negatives* for society. We replaced a finite, real-world experience with an infinite, digital one. Infinite information. Infinite comparison. Infinite distraction. Human’s aren’t wired for that, and you can see the consequences all around us.

@theDunit13 It might come down to where in the 2nd round that pick lands. But in general, I think I like the pick side.

@RichOToole I don't mind a little cotija, but my preferred taco is just meat, onions, and a squeeze of lime. If you want to add cilantro to yours, I won't hate on it because it's obviously traditional. But I hate cilantro. 🤮

I don’t like cheese on a taco. It over powers the flavor.

@WarPath2pt0 Yet another data point illustrating a truth most folks don't want to accept: minivans are irrationally practical.

@bowtiedmeathead Younger daughter did one semester and wasn't feeling it. Instead of moving hime, though, she stayed there, took a job a couple of months ago in a restaurant kitchen, and she loves it. She's learning a lot and earning more and more responsibility.

My wife and I were talking the other day about potential career options for my 15 yrs old daughter who really struggles in school and is likely not college bound/material. For guys it’s easy… Don’t want to go to college, pick a trade or figure something else out such as a police officer, firefighter etc. It’s not as easy for girls. I think she would do well in sales since she is attractive, has the personality and is extremely social (spends hours everyday talking on the phone to all her friends). For parents with daughters who aren’t on the college path…what are some real, high-income career options you’ve seen work?

@_blue42 You're suggesting she has one to lose. That's a bold take.

@NailsToed As a kid, dad always had an empty trash bag in his pack anytime we went hunting or fishing so we could fill it up with everyone else's trash. My brothers and I continue to do this.
