Don't care what the haters say, the high point of the opioid epidemic was when Insys pharmaceuticals released a corporate rap song with a rapping sublingual fentanyl spray product. youtube.com/watch?v=mtwFZw…

Anyways the absolute lack of series reserve capacity is just absolutely bonkers. Like, its hurting my brain that Australia given its resources has made these decisions, while in the middle of a 3 decade long commodity boom.

As a giant geology nerd one mystery that always stuns me is that Australia does so little refining of the minerals that they mine. Like they just ship the unprocessed ore to China or elsewhere. Anyways thats kind of dumb, but no where near as dumb as not refining your own oil/NG

@mgliatto02 @nikicaga Its actually the consequences of limited amounts of water. The less water available the more urban the population. People think of the West as rural cowboys, but its more urban then anywhere else due to the expanse of the infrastructure to get sufficient water out of the ground

@nikicaga It might be that each of those Texas counties had just one town, which was technically a “city”, and 100% of the county’s population was in that town.

@Steve_Sailer @Empty_America Also I am not sure why people would expect to be taught in High School about who Hoover's one term vice president was. Like lots of important stuff was happening then so it shouldn't be shocking that his ethnicity is at best a foot note in most high school history books.

@Empty_America It's the kind of thing that is hard for 21st Century Americans to grasp because it doesn't sound racist enuf: you couldn't get elected VP in 1928 if you were noticeably black, but it was fine to have a moderate amount of American Indian nature and nurture like Charles Curtis did.

What the hell? This is real. Never heard of him in 12 years of proto-woke public schooling.
Everybody is Insane@colorblindk1d

@mattbramanti @EWErickson We had a Native American Vice President, Charles Curtis, who spent his childhood on a reservation. He's been erased from history because he basically thought reservations and Indian nations should be dissolved and fully integrated into America. In hindsight, he was correct.

@ManOfManyKeks @carbo_al Had a high school history teacher describe early 1700's Pennsylvania as an object lesson in free riding. Yes, the Quakers get to talk non-violence all day, of course what keeps the Lenape and Shawnee at bay is the Scotch Irish cracking skulls in central Pennsylvania.

@guy_pharm @carbo_al Reading colonial history and how they’d use their political power to repeatedly block raising militias to stop Indian incursions made me hate the Quakers.

When a Quaker would visit Massachusetts they'd cut off his tongue, carve a Q onto his cheek with a knife & tell him if he ever came there again they will kill him Also a huge portion of the Puritan population almost immediately became Unitarian after religous freedom was established with the passage of the constitution
Redeemed Zoomer 👑@redeemed_zoomer

Puritan Massachusetts was probably the greatest and holiest society to ever exist. > 100% literacy rate > virtually zero homelessness > very little wealth inequality > unparalleled family stability > nearly everyone credibly, expressed personal faith in Christ > all fathers catechized their children in the home > 1 church per town, no denominational divisions

@colorblindk1d @mattbramanti @EWErickson I wouldn't say he has been erased from history. Its just the space in a history textbook for the one term vice president of Herbert Hoover is a awfully small. Like your the Vice president during pretty much a four year train wreck.

Years ago I had a schizophrenia patient who I felt really sad that his drugs actually worked. He was in no way violent, and he knew he had delusions. The thing is his delusions were a kind of fluffy squirrel just living on everyone's shoulders and talking to the squirrels on other people's shoulders.

My most popular Sora video was “an Elaborate regency romance where everyone is wearing a live duck for a hat (each duck is also wearing a hat), a llama plays a flute, prestige drama” I am not sure why OpenAI has decided their compute has more valuable uses. Really a mystery.

What was discovered at Ivanhoe was that really minor ground fluctuations changing the angle of the mirrors a hundredth of a degree resulted in several mirrors focusing on a tiny segment, while right next to it there was no heating. Creating a 1000 C differences over an inch of space. Which just simply tore through the machine like it was paper mache.

Very quietly, in a couple of years, this is likely to be shut off just like the Ivanpah Solar plant in Cali. No one has yet created a metal capable of surviving the extreme levels of metal fatigue that an mega sized Archimedes mirror ray causes.
Volcaholic 🌋@volcaholic1

China’s solar power plant in Dunhuang uses around 12,000 mirrors to focus sunlight onto a central tower, heating molten salt to extreme temperatures. That heat is stored and used to generate electricity on demand, including after sunset.

@travis4nh In my experience the biggest issue with debating libertarian policy is that their back ground assumption for how people behave requires everyone to have self control and an IQ of 120. Unfortunately that doesn't resemble any demographics outside of undergrad at elite colleges.
