The people who think "realistic" means "better" don't understand artistic intent. They will never understand why this is bad for games. This will homogenize every title, killing actual artistic vision. This is not something we should champion. Thankfully, the majority of gamers reject this.

Max has great points here, many people people got tricked into thinking it looks good but if you look at the overall picture it actually looks like Shit, this Ai Horseshit doesn't know where the light source is supposed to be and it just makes up random features of characters. By normalizing this technology, developers (the lazier developers) could use technology like this to bypass having to do the work in art direction. There could be a future where certain games require the setting in order to present the “intended visuals”.

Simply put, it wipes over any artistic intent with a broad brush for the sake of “improving” it.
There is now less point to even trying when we get this homogenized filter slapped over everything. It’s a spiked crutch that you think helps you walk, but keeps you injured so you have to keep using it while hobbling yourself.

@NoZ4rt If what you mean by photorealism is cranking the contrast and HDR to the point it ruins artistic intent, nobody actually wants that. Good games and movies has specific visual intent even if their graphics are realistic.
