@mooreholmes24 Moore's evidence for Unionism being on the frontfoot TLDR: 1.Unionists went to white house for Irish celebration. 2. FM didn't go to a briefing about the Middle East. 3. Gerry Adams case withdrawn. 4. Students against the Irish language like Moore got outvoted in QUB.

“𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭” 𝐛𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐦𝐞𝐬 A week in politics is hardly the measure of a movement. There are good days and bad, ups and downs. But if the past seven days tell us anything, it’s this: Unionism isn’t on the back foot anymore, it’s setting the pace. Confident, visible, and stepping onto the global stage. And it’s about time people started recognising it. When Sinn Fein and Alliance refused to cross the Atlantic for a diplomatic engagement with the US, assuming Sinn Fein were going to be invited in the first place (big assumption), the goal was left wide open for Unionists to make inroads on the international scene. They successfully seized the opportunity. By accepting an invitation to The White House, Unionists represented Northern Ireland’s interests, engaging with some of the most powerful people in the world. They shared the stage with global leaders, encouraged investment into our economy and, from the outside looking in, made a very positive impression. As Unionists made their presence felt in America, a Loyalist band led from the front back home, quite literally. For the first time ever, the annual Saint Patrick parade in Belfast was led by the sound of flutes and drums. The ever impressive Imperial Guards spearheaded the procession, serenading the St Patrick’s crowd with traditional Loyalist music. It has been part of a growing reclamation of the British dimension to the St Patrick story, one historically, and mistakenly, monopolised by Irish Nationalism. Again, it serves as another example of an outward looking confidence within the Unionist community, courageously stepping outside its comfort zone, unashamed of who it is and what it stands for. Whether across the Atlantic or at traditionally one-sided events closer to home, Unionism is finished with sitting on the fringes. Inaccurately characterised by bad actors as backward, often by the most narrow-minded and toxic of critics. Where Unionism is succeeding, however, their opponents are struggling. This week alone we have witnessed the infamous sectarian slogan, “Kill All Huns” spray painted across residential walls in Short Strand and the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall in Londonderry. Nationalist figures felt compelled to comment on neither. At a higher level, Sinn Féin’s former President Gerry Adams has been in the dock denying IRA membership. What stood out most wasn’t the bottomless pit of evidence against him, but how many Republicans have now turned on him. The daughter of Brendan Hughes condemned him, wishing her father’s face would “haunt him,” while others branded Adams a “liar”, “traitor” and “coward.” This comes straight on the heels of self-styled “First Minister for All” Michelle O’Neill refusing to attend UK security briefings on the Middle East. At a time when thousands of British and Irish citizens could be affected, she chose to sit it out, citing political disagreement. A complete dereliction of duty from someone who holds the highest office in the country. It doesn’t paint a pretty picture. All Nationalism seems to offer right now are manufactured cultural grievances around the Irish language and the GAA, and overwrought perspectives on global affairs that they have no ability to change. The betterment of Northern Ireland and all of its people never sounds like a priority. More time is spent imagining a future most of the country does not want and supporting initiatives that pit communities against one another. That’s not confidence. It’s a victimhood driven agenda sustained by distraction and not delivery. Even this week’s Irish Language referendum at Queen’s University proves the point. It demonstrated, above all else, complete apathy and widespread disengagement with one of Nationalisms key hobby horses. Out of 25,000 students, only 5,000 took part in the vote, raising serious questions about both its mandate and if there is a genuine interest in the Irish language issue.

@JamieBrysonLLB You do realise that this also means an extremely meagre 1.6% of QUB students who voted against are the group you insist to be representative of the whole, right?

Here is the true figure behind the propaganda from the aggressive and divisive Irish language lobby. A mere 18% of QUB students support the unwanted imposition of Irish language signage.

As an Irishman, 🇮🇪 I find it racist to compare Irish people, and my suffering Irish ancestors, to modern Islamic jihadi rapists. Travel back to the Famine and tell those Irish people you identify with Mohammadan holy warriors. They would think you had a mental illness.

Why doesn’t Ireland have a baseball team? Italy just grabbed a bunch of guys from Jersey and called it a national roster. Ireland could walk through Southie in Boston on a Saturday and field a full lineup by noon.

⁉️🗣WATCH: 'We want to reframe the North. Not as just some pity party, basket-case, loser place.' 🎥🎤Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 speaking to @SDLPlive Leader @ClaireHanna, alongside Stormont Opposition Leader @MatthewOToole2. Claire Hanna was asked about a new document from the party which aims to “prepare for a new Ireland.” The proposals, set out in the “Success by Design” document, explore the potential economic benefits of what that new Ireland could look like, according to the party. Just months ago, the Secretary of State told Chief Reporter James Gould there was no appetite for constitutional change here. Claire Hanna says those comments were raised directly with Hilary Benn.

Identifying truth from deceit, facts from propaganda, and reality from agenda has never been so difficult. The mainstream media is no longer trusted. Politicians even less so. So how do we get our information about the world? How do we sieve through the nonsense, wash away the bias, and try to work out what is really going on? Many have given up trying, adopting a more agnostic view of the world. Perhaps we will never know what is really happening. The truth, if it exists at all, is buried somewhere beneath the rubble. Others prefer not to complicate things. What is true is simply what is advantageous, beneficial, or supportive of my side of the argument. Anything to the contrary must therefore be false and dismissed. It is a generational crisis, and it comes at a cost to society. The credulous are vulnerable to misinformation and easily exploited. They can be stirred into frenzies and protests at a moment’s notice. The critical, meanwhile, are drowned out by partisanship. Sophistication is boring and unpopular. It is dismissed as elitist. Soundbites and provocative summaries are far more effective the fast food of political commentary. Then there are the mischievous. They have never had it so good. If you want to tell a lie, you can send it halfway around the world before the truth has even got its shoes on. A school was bombed in Iran. Was the school actually bombed, or was something targeted nearby? A legitimate military target perhaps? Was it the United States, Israel, or Iran itself? How many people died? How do we know? Can we trust Iranian officials? Can we trust American officials? Will the media report it impartially? Will it be reported factually, or filtered through an agenda? Perhaps both. The war of information has been raging long before bombs began falling in the Middle East. It is one I fear we are all destined to lose.
