@SofaMods /2 Twist, tilt, turn- in Mechwarrior you see people (and even AIs with the right mod) turn, use their arms and exposing their (heavily armored) sides to cover their center torso and head/cockpit, the slower you are, the more important is to distribute the damage evenly around

@SofaMods The way tank games and most prominently slow mech games make this work is "extremely deliberate movement": you're not gonna DODGE , you are gonna ANGLE, you are gonna TILT, you're gonna use every single INCH of armor you got. You are wearing your cover - make use of all of it /1

I seen some clamoring for "anti-movement shooters" where you play as a slow-moving tank a-la that one part from BF1, but in trying to prototype it, thinking of how to make the gameplay fun and skillful without some gimmick or limitation contrary to the selling point is tricky.

@humanlydownbad My dream game is to make a grimdark low poly war sim battlefield style, where you grudge through trenches, run through buildings, and see mechs firing at your enemies and at you, but also, if the pilot of your mech gets shot and dies, you can pull him out the mech and get in, etc

I always said The Forever Winter should have been a battlefield game, or a Milsim, or anything that really allows you to roleplay whatever faction and side you want, and not some scav game where all the badass cool stuff happens in front of you while you do nothing.

The most dangerous question a developer can ask is, “Wouldn’t it be cool if…?” It may sound like a great idea in your head, but games are supposed to be fun first and foremost. Both Left Alive and The Forever Winter explored similar concepts, yet neither achieved major success If you make a game with cool mechs fighting each other, but players only get to play as inconsequential infantry, they’ll simply interpret it as you telling them, “You don’t get to do any of the cool stuff because we hate you,” even if that’s not the original intention Players don’t judge a game by how cool and revolutionary the devs think their idea is, they judge it based on how much fun they are having when they play the game. If the fantasy isn’t something they can meaningfully engage with, the concept alone won’t carry the game
