Papperger's comments were rightfully criticized, but the argument that artillery and tanks are obsolete also isn't accurate. Ukrainian PzH 2000 and Leopard tank crews praise both systems, and feedback for Rheinmetall's Skynex has also been positive.

Rheinmetall CEO questions effectiveness of Ukrainian drones Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger criticized Ukrainian drones, calling them “housewife work” and “like Lego.” According to him, Ukraine has not delivered a technological breakthrough but is assembling drones from available components, including through 3D printing. He argues that such developments will not change the global arms market and do not match the level of major defense companies and their technologies. At the same time, Ukrainian commentators point out that modern warfare has changed the rules — cheap, disposable drones can effectively destroy expensive equipment and overwhelm air defense systems. In their view, it is mass production and accessibility, not costly high-end technology, that now provide a tactical advantage on the battlefield.

Today, two drones struck Finland - both likely Ukrainian.
Because of that, I was caught up in quite the media whirlwind and spent the whole day talking about the drones and what the situation could mean for Finland. I was interviewed for a two-part special broadcast and two live news segments on @Yleisradio. On top of that, there were two other interviews.
Tomorrow I’ll finally have a chance to write about this properly on X too. Ukraine’s strikes in the Gulf of Finland region are, in many ways, a significant development.
