This is an in depth analysis comparing the fixed anatomical anchor points and biometrics between Andrew Garfield and RJ Mitte, aimed at disproving the notion that these could be the same person. This analysis was initiated based on observed facial similarity between the subjects. Facial recognition ability varies across individuals, with high performance through disguises being extremely uncommon. If little or no initial similarity is perceived by the reader, this may simply reflect a normal variation in perceptual ability. Accordingly, readers are encouraged to maintain an open and objective perspective. Let’s begin where forensic investigators tend to start with analysis’ like this; the ears. Ears are about as individualized as finger prints, as not even identical twins will share the same ones. Here we’re comparing their ears with a lannarelli-style anthropomorphic measurement (see video). Despite the clear general similarity, the biometric significance is how each chunk tends to contain the same portions of the ear. Even without compensating for the slight camera angle disparity and likely differences in camera distortions, these ears clearly demonstrate a very high anatomical consistency. The facial features reveal no obvious variation with things like skull size and interpupillary distance. The nasolabial folds are similar in insertion and structure (Figure 1). The nasal roots share the same insertion points (Figure 2). However there is a clear dissimilarity in the columella and nostrils (Figure 3). This is our first undoubtable difference. However, this isnt a typical analysis, as this is between Hollywood characters. Following the logic of this hypothetical investigation, advanced prosthetics have to be not only considered but expected. Mitte has a distinctive crease at the top of his philtrum, directly under his nose (Figure 3). Prosthetic modification on Garfield’s columella and nostril area would not only cover up this crease and make the perceived nostril lengths inconsistent, but it would also act to shorten the perceived philtrum length, which are both in fact very similar. The bridge of the nose on Mitte is larger and more prominent. Obviously this can be covered in a prosthetic, but more interestingly there may be clues this hypothetical prosthetic is in use. In a high res photo there are clear signs of skin tone differences, as well as lower overall details such as pores (Figure 4). When contrast is increased & brightness decreased, this phenomenon is greatly highlighted (Figure 5) but arguably this could just be more light hitting the nose. Eyes are extremely similar. Folds mirror each other, inner sclera and canthal tilts are consistent (Figure 6). The anatomy of their skulls and facial landmarks can not prove these are separate people. As for the body, there is no obvious dissimilarity in general anatomy like bicep length, forearm length, shoulder width, and general torso appearance. They also share a divot in the clavicle/trapezius area (Figure 7). Calves look alike and have similar gastrocnemius and soleus insertions (Figure 8). Belly buttons appear dissimilar, the reference photos are limited and unideal, but Garfield’s still does appear to be larger, with greater skin protrusion (figure 9). The belly button does potentially rule out calling them a match, but better photos are required for this to be conclusive. The hands are alike. The potential fingernail similarity is the most interesting. Garfield has a uniquely small pinky nail. I was unable to obtain a clear photo of Mitte’s pinky nail, but in the blurry ones I found, there still is strong potential for similarity (Figure 10) Despite exhibiting nearly identical craniofacial/ear morphology and musculoskeletal structures, I have concluded the odds of them being the same person is 0%. They have separate wikipedias, full of unique backstories, as well as credible reported whereabouts that would put them in different places at the same time
