@KevinCastley we could build nice cities too if we legalized slavery and normallized the 9-9 x6 day work week

@joakial_ Funny how income tax isn't a punishment but ciggarette, alcohol and carbon tax is?
We must aknowledge the problem in a system where those who contribute the most feel punished. Henry George was right. Tax land not people.
English

@Garnet_2203 I would say it can be used as a form of protest for failed promisies, but within one year of being elected it feels like a betrayal.
English

Funny, here’s Stephen Harper supporting floor crossing when it benefited him and the Conservatives.
So was it fine then, but “authoritarian” now?
Ben Bankas@BenBankas
If conservatives in Canada were in power and were using the tactics the liberals are using.. liberals would be protesting everyday screaming about fascism and authoritarianism..

@JimboStanford @TorontoStar I almost thought you were going to blame Trump, and in this case you would be partially right. But blaming 'corporate greed' for anything is completly brain dead. Money is human dog treats, we all follow the incentives we are given.
English

The knee-jerk instinct of Conservatives is to blame govt for everything. Even when the problem (in this case, shocking gas prices) clearly originates with corporate greed. My take for @TorontoStar: thestar.com/business/opini…. #canlab #cdnecon #cdnpoli

@auntiemlin Governemnts love making up definitions of poverty that are outdated, so they can raise inflation on food, double homeless rates, then somehow say poverty is down.
English

@funtomvids We have the right to refuse questions from state propaganda networks on moral grounds.
English

@ApoStructura clearly missed the part where the rapid transit is both the fastest and most efficient I see
English

We need to move away from the “x people per hour” argument.
It’s not a good metric, its logical conclusion is that walk paths are the ultimate form of transportation infrastructure, as they have the most capacity.
Any transportation system also needs to take into account speed.
big_pedestrian@big_pedestrian
Automobiles are an extremely stupid, inefficient and unpleasant way to move people in a city.
English

@tomhfh I want to know what criteria you need to be in the G7? It's a random hat assortment that excludes some of the wealthiest countries in the world.
English

@elonmusk The one made by the same studio that streams Tuttle Twins?

@MikeTho51168619 @validmavericity @PierrePoilievre He has forever tainted my persception of progressive polititcs in my view.
English

@validmavericity @PierrePoilievre Trudeau will go down as the worst PM in Canadian history . He did untold damage to this once great nation .
English

Trudeau did a lot of good. Got Canada through COVID, the trucker occupation, and built a pipeline. What did @PierrePoilievre do?
Jason Scott 🇨🇦@JasonOnTheDrums
#cndpoli #canpoli The BIGGEST difference between these 2 is Trudeau was smart enough to know when it was time to leave.
English

@validmavericity @PierrePoilievre did you just ask what someone who has never been PM do?
Well, he passed the accountability act in 2006 that banned corporations from funding politicalm parties. That was a start, but we never gave him a chance to expand that legacy.
Aslo, Trudeau was removed by his own party.

@TheChaosWeeber 1) shinkansen is privately owned
2) Japan spends 1 3rd to 1 5th of what Canada spends building rail.
we are not opposed to the project, we want to solve the way public works are done in Canada first. It could be as simple as Alto must financialize (even China does this)
English

@tonyannett The biggest difference e]in 1890 that wealth was mostly actual money. Capital markets were in their infancy. Today 'wealth' is mostly just a piece of paper sayign bezons owns 10% of amazon
English

@Cappy_Nate This is the problem that is overlooked in our fragmented loundering heavy system where contracts are closed door. If we financialized Alto (or parent company, Via) like China does, then all suppliers and transactions would be publicly transparent. Transparency lowers prices.
English

@MrJoKeR604 We do NOT hate highspeed rail. One of the first highspeed rail projects ever proposed (and was provisionally approved) was between Edmonton and Calgary. What we hate is spending 100 billion just to scarcly catch up to 1980's Japan.
English

@cityaestheticss would never get a permit for this with all the NIMBYS
English

@SWARAJYAMAXXING GDP is irelevant, but GDP per capita is the income each person would have if income was equal. If the cost of living is above this number, you have a problem. But nobody has solved anything yet by brining that number down.
English

"GDP is all that matters" even if a child goes hungry in one state while he is well fed in other....

Nobody cares about these third-world metrics. Ultimately only GDP matters.
