on @British_Airways flight, trying to use their free executive club wifi. Requires login, try web and requires completing a captcha which doesn't display on phone. If you try app it locks you out and sends an email to unlock - which requires non-free wifi 😐

If they want to sell the outdoor smoking ban, they should do it on the basis of smoking killing people, and only that. Not on people sitting nearby finding the smell annoying. Your voice is also annoying. We cope.

@arrroberts First time I read this (and only time I intend to) I was a bit disappointed that Lord Daha's battlecry wasn't "Take on me". This thought kept me going through the first 400 or so pages, I powered through the rest by force of sheer bloody mindedness

Apparently #lufc are about to sign a Brighton player #bhafc for £7m. Don’t normally do football chat but my mate works in their analytics team and mentioned it earlier. Part of the deal for a Leeds player coming the other way but waiting for personal terms to be agreed

@thomashurst They were saying 3 before the departures (Anthony replacement, Roberts replacement, number 10). So not sure how that came to be 4 given Kamara/Rutter/Gray/Summerville also now gone and only Bogle fits that list. But it's just spin anyhow.

@twlldun As I remember in Star Wars the resistance exists because an autocrat has grabbed power with the help of a self-interested corporate cabal. In the prequels the heroes are the authority figures and you're meant to side with them. And the resistance leader is a princess.

And obviously not every source of authority is bad or every rebellion virtuous. And often rebellions contradict each other! But that’s how it’s coded in our head. I wonder why.

Ignoring the terrible Facebook boomer energy of this meme for a moment, there is something really psychologically interesting about how rebel is coded virtuous and authority is coded bad across almost all cultures.

Leeds summer in which they have sold some of their best individuals while keeping a manger who relies on individuals rather than a real style of play seemed laced with risk. Interesting to see how that plays out.

Many people have been (rightly) worried for a long time about monolithic dependencies on monolithic tech providers. If you want a great perspective on/extrapolation of it go read @doctorow's brilliant short story, "Unauthorized Bread" from his book Radicalized

Looking at the news today (or trying to: in many cases it's down) I'm reminded of a panel I was on many years ago with Bill Coleman (the B in BEA) who said re Microsoft: "never trust a vendor you wouldn't trust to run your pacemaker. four words: blue face of death"

@duncanrobinson not sure whether the Gails thing is true but the only Gails in Hampshire is in Fleet, in Hampshire NE, which the Libs won, and also on the night had to significantly exceed the opinion poll projection to do so
