It would probably be in Marathon's best interest to get more active players. Playing nothing but sponsored kit lobbies certainly isn't a way I'd want to play 24/7 (would much rather kill kitted teams & take their gear), but it's lookin like a solid way to get more casuals to give it a go - as they know they'll be on even footing, and its low-stakes PvP.
I had a Mod play Marathon for the first time yesterday, and she seemed a little nervous about jumping in. But Sponsored Marsh was a great starting ground - kinda like the Bunny Hill for beginner skiers. A place for players to figure things out & build their confidence a bit more before raising the stakes by jumping into other maps/gametypes.

The number of comments on this celebrating or begging for the sponsor kit queue to be permanent is highly concerning. Do people really prefer playing a worse BR, or is the average person's gear fear just that crippling? I really don't understand, what is the appeal here?

PlayStation support has confirmed that a new digital rights management policy for the console is intentional, not a glitch. Starting with any digital games purchased after the March 2026 system update, your PS5 will require an internet connection at least once every 30 days to validate the license. If the console stays offline longer than that, the games simply will not launch until you reconnect. This change does not affect any titles already in your library. Setting a console as your primary system also will not bypass the monthly check-in.

Not to be pre-emptively negative about shadow & order but if June comes around and the biggest things that arrive are legacy gear tiering, set bonuses, and pantheon I fear it wont nearly be enough to get people fired up enough to reinstall.

In case anyone's wondering how Marathon is doing, at the rate it's shrinking each week I'm pretty sure it just had its last 20K days that we'll see before it goes F2P or they do something truly shocking for season 2 (which I doubt).
It didn't hit 21K Thu-Sun. We still aren't at its floor.

Max lvl knife was too "strong" even with its grind and got nerfed.
