@MLBaseball_Live SS and 2B aren’t your “slug” guys. They need to hit for average. They need to get on base and score some runs. By your own logic you would have let Yadi go early in his career because he couldn’t “slug”.

I don't view Winn as a core piece for our future. In fact, I don't overvalue his skill set or tools at all in a position that I and the league value Slug in. I don't view Winn any higher than I viewed Kolten Wong. I don't view Winn as any more of a core player than I would've viewed Brendan Donovan or Tommy Edman. Winn feels like the right-now SS, waiting until the next one is ready, just as those I mentioned served their role. And if an opportunity comes along to trade him for significant pieces through this multi year rebuild , you do it. I say all of this only due to the trend of teams getting ahead and locking up their young players. While the St. Louis Cardinals haven't been one of them. It has struck up conversations within our fan base about whether they would and who it would be. I've seen a few fans mention Winn, and I couldn't disagree more. Unless he starts hitting 20+ home runs a season, that is not a long-term shortstop. JJ is another name thrown around. I'm excited about what we've seen so far, and it's his rookie year. There's no need to offer any contract just yet, and in the same breath, there's no need to overcriticize just yet. However, I do worry about JJ's power and ability to slug. And if over the next three seasons he shows that he doesn't have much slug, I will say the same thing about him as I have just said about Winn. If Jordan Walker continues to be the type of hitter, he has been over the past month, throughout the 2026 season comes into next season following the same trends I do consider walker skill set and profile as a power hitting corner outfielder who's under 25 as someone I would lock up long-term. If Herrera can show that he has the ability to play first base - he's somebody I would consider locking up longer. Not a catcher and not at DH I view Herrera as a long-term first baseman while letting Burleson walk If buyers comes up and shows that he is what he has been as a major league for the past 18 months that is a skillet I wanna lock up long-term If Rodriguez comes up and continues his skill set as a major leader that's something I want to lock up. If Jurrangelo or Doyle or Franklin or Clarke or Roby , and show top of the line rotation ability that's something I wanna lock up I am not interested in locking up a defensive first shortstop - nor am I in a hurry to lock up a middle infield or of any kind that has the inability to slug. Ask the Pirates about locking up defensive first players long term. - or the Reds for trading for it I want to lock up outfield slug I wanna lock up slug at the corners I wanna lock up slug behind the plate I wanna lock up filthy starting pitching That's it #stlcards

The housing market is the real problem. If the cost of houses/apartments goes down, people will actually be able to make a comfortable living.
