@johnrabe@JeffStory289783@cigarmike Baseball sold the rights to the only network that was interested who will air the games on broadcast tv. It’s just on Peacock until NBA is finished.
@Sooners80@JeffStory289783@cigarmike No, because there was previously no Friday night national game of the week. However, putting the game’s weekly showcase game, where nobody can see it now is a bit different.
MLB’s new Sunday Night Baseball contract is electrifying, where it’s available to 200 people who pay $16 per month to watch ”The Office,” which is already broadcast 24 hours a day on every cable network. Good work, Manfred, you magnificent idiot. #STLCards
Does anybody else worry that by the time our young SP will be in their prime - our current position player core - like JJ and Walker will be on the back end of theirs or going to free agency?
Specifically talking about Doyle, Jurrangelo, Clarke, Franklin - like hypothetical here
Once Walker and JJ are in their like 26-30 prime - those guys might just finally be contributing to the ML team in a meaningful way.
Let's say lockout in 2027 for the game here
2028 JJ and Walker are 25
Doyle and Jurrangelo are rookies
Let's say 2030 is the year Doyle enters the season as the quote on quote ACE - C man is the #2 and let's say Franklin is in there too.
By the time those guys are established and their own rotation - what the cardinals are building
JJ and Walker will be already 27 and 28
Walker I think in his final year of arbitration and JJ in his 2nd year -
Baez would be entering his final year of pre arb if he comes up this season
Burley would already be gone in free agency -
I guess my whole point is - if Walker is this good - and you have Herrera and Burleson to add to him as the middle of this order - and JJ and Baez and Crooks
Shouldn't the Cardinals maybe spend money on SP sooner rather than later and whatever these young SP turn into will be the cherry on top.
Long winded argument to say
I think we should be in the Skubal market man and I'm 100% serious
We would be able to afford it -
It's not like we need to go sign much more
Having a significant portion of our salary on one player actually works for the next 5-6 seasons
Once it turns into an issue - it won't be anymore
Idk maybe I'm just high
#stlcards
@johnrabe@JeffStory289783@cigarmike It been broadcast the same way for 30 years. With the regional sports networks and now all the people without cable can stream it directly. So having a once weekly game of the week on Apple the last few years has made people not like baseball?
@Sooners80@JeffStory289783@cigarmike Yes, I understand that. It’s a chicken and egg question. Is baseball‘s popularity waning because they’ve made themselves so hard to find? Or are they hard to find because their popularity is waning?
@johnrabe@JeffStory289783@cigarmike ESPN didn’t want Sunday Night’s anymore. NBC was the only network. They bought the rights just won’t air the games on NBC until after basketball.
@JeffStory289783@cigarmike I don’t mind them getting paid. But there’s a point in which it’s foolish if you’re spreading your product so thin that nobody knows where to find it. Or has to have 10 different subscriptions to get it.
I just love seeing Pages, Scott, Saggese and Church give the most uncompetitive AB's during a "rebuild" year.
Baez, Crooks just chilling in Memphis - literally nothing left to prove (especially Crooks)
Chaim is very much like MO.
I want excitement - I don't care about Wins but I do want to see the kids play -
I want a productive season -
There's no reasons why Pages or Poso should be here over Crooks - not 1 - #stlcards
@TonyWeber1@MattPauleyOnAir@KMOXSports It was top 7 in baseball in ERA and fewest blown leads. Even after trading everyone away. Svanson had a sub 2 ERA himself.
The #STLCards have a 6.15 Bullpen ERA.
Obviously, that's not good and it needs to get better and it's perfectly acceptable to look at ways to make it better.
But I think the level of freak out is a bit over-the-top.
Last season the club had a 5.71 bullpen ERA through 10 games and finished with it at 3.74.
We are 10 games in! We have 152 games left. We can take the temperature down a notch.
@__PHIII__ Well considering we need at least 5 starters and can only have 13 pitchers total on the roster, I would say your estimate of 15 is extremely high
The Springfield Cardinals are 3-0
The Memphis Redbirds 8-1
Jordan Walker is slugging .618
JJ Wetherholt has a .386 OBP
The Cardinals have $0 in guaranteed contracts after this year
2028 World Series is a lock
@TonyWeber1@MattPauleyOnAir@KMOXSports The bullpen was really good last year. That was the point of what he was saying. It was logical to think Svanson could be your setup man after he was so dominant last year.
@MattPauleyOnAir@KMOXSports lol the level of freak out is not near enough…. I mean you just showed how bad it was last year … their answer was to bring in a bunch of crap players with 5 plus era’s last year …… Blooms off season was awful…. His 2 free agent pitchers have been terrible
I don't think people understand
If Jordan Walker has figured it out
This rebuild is literally over.
You go get guys to open a competitive window for the next 5-6 years
If Walker is here
You go get Skubal - #stlcards
@Sooners80@MLBaseball_Live One would think we’d have young arms that can fill these roles. The fact we don’t an we employ the Staneks of the world doesn’t speak highly of player development.
Imagine this Sooner Team
125: Sam Hazewinkel
133: Cody Brewer
141: Teyon Ware
149: Roger Frizzell
157: Wayne Wells
165: Dave Schultz
174: Danny Hodge
184: Josh Lambrecht
197: Dan Chaid
285: Steve Williams
HC: Port Robertson
ASST: Roger Kish
ASST: Sam Hazewinkel
ASST: Jack Spate
I get Nelson hasn't done a ton in AAA - I'd still take the potential of what I saw in spring vs Church right now.
Crooks and Blaze have looked great
There's moves to be made man #stlcards
Ding. Ding. Ding. It’s not the top kids that this system will fail. It’s the kids who make $500k and then $600k. They graduate, their careers sputter out and then go to get an office job and make $75k. What are they going to do then. The ncaa won’t care…
The way Baez looks right now - I'm sure the Cardinals do what they do best and destroy any confidence he had by not doing the obvious thing.
Crooks and Baez should be here - not in AAA #stlcards
This is --- a rebuild
The St. Louis Cardinals DFA left-handed pitcher Nick Raquet. Raquet made his MLB debut last year after coming out of retirement while working in finance. He posted a 2.24 ERA across three levels and opened this season at Triple-A Memphis.
