The real reason it didn’t go higher, is because the builders only had a couple of seconds to bid up the value, and our algorithms don’t assume jumping bids by millions of dollars. So builders were competing raising bids for the limited time they had. And regarding hiding bids, you’re assuming all builders have equal access to block value here; and that will never be true. Hiding bids only makes it harder for smaller builders to compete when they don’t have the value. On a regular business day, price discovery means a smaller builder can calculate how much of a block value to bid, or to subsidize against other builders. If all bids are hidden then builders with exclusive flow are able to shade their bids in a blind auction and the smaller builders who no longer have price discovery will just have to always bid full block value, meaning zero profit. So if you want to exacerbate builder centralization and and the flow moving exclusively to a couple of builders, blind auction is the way to do it. I can tell you for a fact, if we didn’t have open bids, no way you would finally have a 3rd major block builder now, and you’d still have two builders building 90% of blocks.
