The newest blog post is out! This time, it’s about beauty. I was sitting with a group of businesspeople who didn’t understand why any sort of beauty would serve any kind of purpose in the world, or how it potentially could. These people think that if there isn’t a direct line from the work you do to money, the work must be worthless. So I wrote this polemic on the importance of beauty. Retweets and likes are appreciated! (Link in next tweet 👇)

Apple is such a competent company that the photos I import from an iPhone to a Mac have meaningless filenames which also puts them out of the order of shooting and RAW images don’t show anything in their thumbnails. And that company want’t to do anything with AI. God help us.

@Coinvo Many people in the replies don’t understand what a user interface is supposed to be. I’ve written about physical buttons (and why they are often the best choice) some time ago: nubero.ch/blog/010/

WOW: 🇨🇳🇪🇺 China and Europe will introduce new rules that require cars to have physical buttons. "We believe car controls must be 'blind-operable' and touchscreens can be a safety risk on the road." Follow @Coinvo

Microsoft Windows is also “the culmination of many years of work by a lot of people” and it still sucks. Who cares how many people worked at something? If anything, it’s a sign of failure. Bill Atkinsons more or less singlehandedly designed MacPaint and invented 80% of UI metaphors that we still use today.

@BetaProfiles Contrary to many reports, Liquid Glass is the culmination of many years of work by a lot of people at Apple, including those now in charge of design. It’s here to stay (and most people are quite happy about that.)

According to Mark Gurman, the "latest internal versions of iOS 27 and macOS 27 do not have major Liquid Glass design changes."

@victorckumar So? No one can explain what true creativity is. If anyone could, that person could create an AGI. As it is, no one can and there’s no path from LLMs to AGI. And LLMs can – by definition – only remix what they saw. And badly at that.

Yesterday, I listened to a respected philosopher of AI argue that LLMs can’t make predictions, that the future is utterly closed to them, because their training data is limited to the past. Unlike humans.

There are so many bigger concerns in the world right now (obvi) but dear god the things I would do to go back to an era where written content was more easily/widely accessible than video content. I want to READ the news, a recipe, a how-to, etc; I do NOT want to watch a video! 😭

@milkkarten Well, since most of them have their overpriced and low quality stuff made in sweatshops in Southeast Asia, it’s really in line for them to advertise their things with AI slop…

what does it signal to consumers when luxury brands with big budgets are using ai-generated imagery in campaigns?
