Hamaguchi basically confirms that Final Fantasy VII Remake Series is just a Reimagining of the classic 1997 OG FF7 title. I will say that he needs to stop talking or he will spoil the game before launch. Now we can bury the sequel and requel theories for good now. 😌🔥🔥

I think they’ve given us the puzzle pieces but not the image of what the puzzle is supposed to look like so right now it doesn’t seem obvious

@TifaTheMonk I think that love is complicated. I’ve told both people in Clerith circles and in Cloti circles that I believe that Cloud has a degree of love for both of them and that’s part of what makes it even more complex. That doesn’t mean cheating either.

You don’t have to ship Cloti, to simply acknowledge it is what the story is. Everyone who has played this game start to finish at some point knows this to be true, they just either don’t want to acknowledge it because they don’t want the drama or they bat for CA, regardless that doesn’t change what’s written on the page. And I say this to the “non-shippers” all the time. Even if you claim not to take a position on the LTD, at some point you always will because how you view the overall story changes depending on if you think Cloud is in love with Tifa or Aerith. It’s not just about who you think should be in that Gondola. Everything post OG or how you view the Life stream scene, and Cloud’s journey is affected by if you can acknowledge the basic fact that he loves Tifa and has always loved her. It’s not up for debate or “player choice”.

Ancients have the capability to interface with the planet in a way that bestows future knowledge onto them. As mentioned in DoC the ancients had knowledge of future events centuries or millenia ahead of time. With the ancients wiped out and returned to the LS/planet, that future knowledge now exists within the LS. Thats how Sephiroth has knowledge of these events, and why Aerith does as well. (Shes an ancient, Sephirpth was thrown into the LS itself)

Somebody help me out here If Hamaguchi outright says "its more accurate to consider AC as cannon to OG FF7, not Remake" How does Sequel theory work now? Isnt the crux of the theory that this Trilogy is a sequel to AC? And that Sephiroth time traveled? I'm open to ideas.

Additionally we get the identifier of the flower brooch on that version of her when she does appear. I know it outlines the whispers took her memories from her every time they touched her. 🪡

It's not about "before" or "after" in the traditional sense, though "sequel" implies that type of definition. "Sequel" became a shorthand because it was the easiest approximation to describing what's happening, which is a continuation of cause & effect. Speaking for myself and a lot of the people that I know in that camp, it isn't saying "OG happened in year 0007, AC happened in year 0009, and Remake happens after." The contention has been that Sephiroth and Aerith most specifically, through the Lifestream, have gained knowledge of future events. In interviews after remake, the devs seemingly explain this as "memories of the future." A bit of an oxymoron, but it fits with the lore that the Lifestream has access to all knowledge and memories that exist or will exist. (their words below) So, there isn't "time travel" in the traditional sense either, but rather the idea that characters gained access to future knowledge that has traveled through the Lifestream in a way that impacts the present. It is because of the future knowledge that they begin to act in defiance of that future. And, in theory, that future no longer really exists since the Whisper Harbinger no longer exists -- which was the entity in control of making sure any deviations bent back to the original continuity aka "the will of the planet." It is, effectively, a continuation of the chess match between post-OG Aerith and Sephiroth from Lifestream Black and White. Sephiroth's AC plan didn't work, so he came up with a new one. By leveraging "future memories," Sephiroth made an attempt to "Remake" the events of FF7 to favor him. As a counterforce, Aerith's future consciousness seemed to communicate a plan to herself in the present (potentially at the mako pipe in the beginning). Take, for instance, her appearing to remember herself in the 3rd person receiving an instruction about the yellow flowers (Chapter 17 of Remake). In the tug of war to determine the future, Sephorith makes an appeal to break destiny by crossing "Destiny's Crossroads." Aerith hesitates, warning the party of the consequences... before ultimately giving in, likely as part of her own calculation that they could potentially make an even better future. All that's to say, Advent Children is canon insofar that it must exist for either of those characters to decide it best to try and alter it. It is essentially the "inciting incident" for the Remake recreation of the story. But because of that, it is no longer likely as the next direct step in the chronology. At least, that's my take on it.

@Wally443 I mean to be fair we even have devs saying that the remake has a new unique theme. Are they somewhat to blame for pushing comments like that?

In less than a year we will see just how pointless it was to get into “debates” with people who have never actually understood FF7 in the slightest. Not it’s characters, it’s world, it’s themes. Not only did they not understand these things, they also didn’t care about them.

@oathgate1 @ffSteeD27 The problem is expectation. Yuffie not stealing the materials and not betraying the group is a big change in the story, for example, and nobody cared.

Feel like the only "no regrets" solution that makes everyone feel "it was worth it to follow this journey" and "not undermine the OG" is: -A similar but bigger ending (maybe expand the 500 flash forward). -A big epilogue to give more color to AC (essentially OTWTAS).

They are doing what myself and others have said, combining the entire compilation into the remake to make one definitive version. Theyve been saying this for a long time, so ppl shouldnt be surprised. AC will be connected to the project like the OG, just wait till Revelation

@oathgate1 @ffSteeD27 But from the beginning they've been saying this in interviews all the time, expanding the lore and that they're being faithful to the story. And even if it doesn't end up being the same ending, the chance of displeasing those who wanted a different ending is still high.

@ffSteeD27 @ItaloCasaes Right I meant if they didn’t do all the wild stuff and just remastered it and added more lore. What they’ve done now is clearly set a different theme than grief and acceptance, the theme honestly seems to be hope and perseverance
