It's upon us. After my first video, I realized that I needed to replay the games and do thorough research before venturing into theory-crafting that is worthy of people's time. So this has been in the works since August. I hope you enjoy it! youtu.be/9eqpzUydSVI

@ffSteeD27 Therefore, the planet's will is neither good nor evil, nor does it necessarily have to serve life. The planet follows the rules of nature, for everything that exists must also end.

The biggest issue I personally have with the bad ending angle for post FF7 is that said ending was a necessity for humans to atone. If humans weren't punished by the planet, they wouldn't stop. The whole point of FF7 is that the party pitched for humanity, which got it spared.

@CloudyWolf80 That's interesting although I think there could be follower bias obviously. If someone else were to run it it might be different, it's hard to find one objective way of doing it sadly.

To clarify, Vincent says Gilligan came from the far distant future that Red is unconsciously afraid of, that it knows everything about him and the moments that only he has experienced. Red XIII Basically gets another vision of that same future during OTWTAS.
SteeD@ffSteeD27

OTWTAS is a gold mine. Nanaki's feat of loss (Gilligan) once manifested ashim imagining the 500y flash forward. Considering how personal the Harbinger memories were, it's possible that they were seeing their fears from a distant future, rather than erasing it.

@Kain424 I don't think that's what is implied - Meteor could embody the biggest challenge that Tifa has been grappling: Innocent lives being taken away. Out of the gang it seems that meteor as a fear makes sense to her or Aerith (which we don't get, interestingly).

@ffSteeD27 Yeah, that's why I like the idea of it. But in execution, it feels quite clumsy. Tifa keeps being forced to rebuild her life, even though it gets shredded again and again. But to think she;s extrapolated that so far as to a literal meteor coming to destroy the world is...specific

Back to Hamaguchi's "Can the characters really change their fate?" - an interesting perspective is to think of the visions as the most terrifying moments the characters have buried in their unconscious. Meteor for Tifa, Not saving Aerith for Cloud, loneliness for Red XIII, etc.

@Kain424 Considering we're talking about future unconscious fears (Possibly due to how the lifestream connects to people's unconscious, remember that we're speculating about these mechanics here), then that could very well be a good scene to portray it I believe.

@ffSteeD27 I think it's a cool notion (maybe even the right one), but the visual details are a bit too specific for this to be perfectly clear. Like, would Cloud have specifically feared he would be lowering Aerith into a pool of water?

@deltasyn @_subtxt_ @ectogamut I think that there are certain quotes which can go one way or the other, but some of them, objectively, seem very hard to interpret as though they're planning to change the story. For me not every single quote of his is in the middle, I genuinely see some of them as leaning.

@ffSteeD27 @_subtxt_ @ectogamut x.com/ffSteeD27/stat… You were just talking about bias earlier, so I want to ask you a question. Do you think it's odd how each side of the fandom interprets these devs statements in such predictable ways?
SteeD@ffSteeD27

@deltasyn @Schrodingersba4 I'm aware but I don't like to club the discussion under "everyone will pick up what they want" because while true, I feel like it removes our agency. Not everyone is dishonest or lacking self awareness so as mature people we can sit down and look at the quotes for what they are.

@EZ_R009 I don't know because I don't care about FF7 Remake as a business. I'm just a consumer who happens to love the way they're telling this story (so the best answer I can give is that business-wise it's working with me...)

@deltasyn @EZ_R009 It's still art at the end of the day and can't be quantified or be measured against objective metrics. Yes if something is negatively mass reviewed, it's likely that it's bad writing, but given the consensus on FF7R so far I doubt we're in that sort of conversation.

@ffSteeD27 @EZ_R009 I would have to strongly disagree there. There are objectively good ways to tell stories and there are some that aren't objectively good outside of a few exceptions.

@EZ_R009 Also there is no objectively good way to tell a story. It's art which means that it will be what the writer intends it to be, and some will inevitably like it. It's the exact same reason why some hardcore FF fans never touch modern FF for example.

@ffSteeD27 @Schrodingersba4 But it's nearly impossible for anyone to do that when these are essentially marketing statements meant to be read in a way that triggers our own biases. I think it's much more productive to talk about what actually happens in the story.

@Schrodingersba4 I didn't see any converts at all, just mutuals which had given up because their opinion was drowned (not maliciously btw) finding a second breath and using the opportunity to re-present their side. Admittedly some are trying to rub it in. It's very hard to resist for humans..

@ffSteeD27 I haven’t seen a lot of new converts to either side. Very much seems like the same old players saying the same old things tbh. And in my experience it always gets this way leading up to a big reveal.
