@lateturn @ChimeWhistle Also note the subtle wording on "a" train in the depot vice "the" train. So could well be that the allocated unit blocked in or borrowed or countless other reasons. The other problem with RTT is that the codes are only simply explained as well and don't update when re-allocated

@ChimeWhistle "The depot", in this case, consists of a single road shed/fuel point and four short stabling sidings, with most of the 20 or so units stabling overnight in the station after being fuelled and serviced. Hardly spending "all night" with the fitters' undivided attention.

I've done, as a journalist, a number of depot night shifts - reporting on and photographing what happens. Often a train will arrive at the depot with faults and there just isn't the time to fix them all during the night shift.
John The Fitter@John_The_Fitter

Here we have the reason for the cancellation of the first Northern Service (2P62) 06.43 Lincoln to Sheffield which was caused by a fault on the train in the depot, that train has been in the depot all night for maintenance so why has it it failed to get to Lincoln.

@seatsixtyone If that was today, then your service was 4 1/2 late in to Oxford, so if you got to watch the connecting train leave, then you would have made it - if the inbound was on time?

Wonder why they bother showing connections like this? True, I *did* get to see the 15:49 leave in front of me by the time I fought my way over the footbridge, which was nice. But realistically, the 16:19 is the Oxford-Bicester train you’re actually going to end up on, innit? 🤷‍♂️

@poetwithpace @mrwilldouglas Report says. Coach H - 36 people, Coach G - 42 people. The front two vehicles would seat 48 people. So, how was that crowded when not every seat was full?

@mrwilldouglas @CrossCountryUK Have seen this for decades. I also recall the train tragedy at Paddington 1999 which killed many because of crowded at front. I may suggest lobby your MP and transport minister.

That was the worst and most unsafe train journey I’ve experienced. @CrossCountryUK you should be ashamed. You lay on a dirty, old train. And allow it to fill to the gunnels. People jammed in filling toilets, vestibules and luggage hold areas. Elderly and disabled people, and mums with young kids treated like cattle. Packed in like sardines. Plus no audible information - tannoy so quiet no one could hear. It’s dangerous for people to travel squashed like this and had I been travelling with my wife and children I’d have got off. From what I can see on X this is a regular occurrence. Mark my words - if there is a major tragedy involving an overcrowded train like this there will be horrendous and unnecessary loss of lives, and people rightly going to jail for turning a blind eye. XC Trains Ltd / Crosscountry Trains - you need to find a way to put the passengers before your profits and shareholders.

@MarkMiddleton37 @ChimeWhistle Exactly that. Download it and then never scan it. Then claim never used. Suspect when it has all gone tits up you'll be able to claim an abandoned journey.

@ChimeWhistle Apparently fraudulent refunds cost the industry 40 million a year. So one brief says.

@RobinMoseley778 @dimenpsyonal Up Line (reversible) open this morning and traffic moving. Which considering the waves at Dawlish station were managing to get about 50m inland is rather impressive! Credit to those teams that were out there to sort it out!

@dimenpsyonal Not sure you understand what the word “constant” means. Your own chart shows it is 12 yeas since the last major disruption. This isn’t even the sea defences. You can see the concrete defences behind the wall are intact. This wall will be sorted in quick time.

@tcnoca @peopledisplacer Let's allow the OP to do the maths on it. Assume the railway operates for 363 days a year for 21 hours a day. How many minutes per hour are put to train drivers?

Go look up the 2024 FOI request to Network Rail where all of this stuff was reported. Drivers are overwhelmingly the greatest source of rail delays, as well as a huge drain on finances via union-inflated pay. Given all they do is sit on their ass and push the odd button, it’s about time they were automated out of existence. Good riddance.

.@stephen37292ML . All this and a Guard's Van too, in which you could easily put your bike without reservation fuss or getting in the way of other passengers. How I miss BR. But all its attackers can do is make (untrue) attacks on the sandwiches.
Stephen Menzies ACIRO@stephen37292ML

This says it all to me BR at its best ! 5000hp loco new Mk2 air conditioned stock, plenty of luggage space , seats at windows with tables, buffet car a simplified livery that easily identified classification, staff uniforms easily identifying grades .. was it all bad ?? GBR?

@commuterdramas Nope. Annoys me as well. Merseyrail used to employ rent-a-thug to deal with it (amongst other things!)
