ENDANGERED PALAWAN LEOPARD CAT KITTENS RESCUED Two endangered Palawan leopard cat kittens, locally known as “Tamaral” or “Maral,” were rescued on Monday, February 23. A resident’s dog alerted the family to an adult Tamaral nearby, leading to the discovery of the kittens, according to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Roxas, Palawan. The kittens were immediately turned over to the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) for proper care and monitoring. MENRO said the young cats are healthy and safe under official supervision. The Palawan leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis heaneyi) is classified as endangered under Philippine law. 📸 MENRO Roxas

Nagsimula ang imbestigasyon matapos makatanggap ng sulat ang pulisya mula sa animal welfare group. Humarap sa pulisya ang suspek at sa kaniyang paunang pahayag, nakita umano niya ang pusa na nasagasaan at inihagis niya ito sa tulay sa pag-aakalang patay na. Mariing pinaalalahanan ng pulisya ang suspek na hindi pinahihintulutan ang ganitong insidente, at patuloy ang masusing imbestigasyon upang matukoy ang kaniyang pananagutan. Ayon kay Trisha Lim, presidente ng animal welfare group na Humane Philippines, magsasampa sila ng kaso laban sa suspek sa paglabag sa Republic Act 8485 o ang Animal Welfare Act of 1998. Nagpadala ng rescue team sa Indang ang grupo matapos may mag-ulat na posibleng buhay pa ang pusa, ngunit sa kabila ng tulong ng barangay ay hindi ito natagpuan.
