@NateDuncanNBA Apron rules killing what little parity existed, another boneheaded Adam Silver innovation that had the exact opposite of the intended effect

@celticslurk2000 @mrlf9332 Cunningham was one game away from making it. He hadn't been missing games for load management. He would have easily made it if not for a weird injury. I don't think this was a way out of bounds granting of eligibility.

I love Jay Bilas, but I don't think Jaylen Brown is making All-NBA First Team. I think that's going to be: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Nikola Jokic Victor Wembanyama Luka Doncic Cade Cunningham Brown will get Second Team, and that's still a honor for one hell of a season.

this is the moral of seemingly every tv show these days and *it is a bad and wrong moral* (“All this would be solved if these people just went to therapy!” “Are you in therapy?” “Uh… yes” “Is your problem solved yet?” “FUCK OFF”)

@JeremiahDJohns Back then writers were readers who had some experience with classic literature. Writers today don’t even watch movies.

Clueless was an adaptation of Emma. 10 Things I Hate About You was Taming of the Shrew. Lion King was Hamlet. She's the Man was Twelfth Night. Feels like we used to do lots of kids/teen movies that were based on classic literature, and we just stopped? Should do more of that.

when I became a TV writer, accounts like Howlingmutant’s used to scare me here I was getting paid astronomical sums to write for hit comedies, yet I’d occasionally see Twitter accounts that were every bit as funny as the funniest writer on the show and those people worked at call centers, warehouses, or the ferry I’d think, “wow I’m so lucky that person doesn’t live in LA and doesn’t have an agent” I can’t think of many equivalents either I don’t think there’s a random guy playing pickup basketball in Rochester who is as good as the pros but also Hollywood is about connections and being “diverse” helps too

@Alexfeinberg Most tragic thing is that women are some of the best, most conscientious workers - if they’re a minority. But have too many or put them in charge and it’s a disaster.

@SydSteyerhart @curtis_yarvin It’s actually incredible how precisely current facebook has recreated old newspapers from first principles. Mix of hard news, fake slop news, town gossip, classified ads.

As far as rhetorical shots go, Tucker’s “I feel sorry for him, as I do all slaves” was much stronger than Trump’s reheated “low IQ” bits. My completely impartial observation.

@olympicbean The fact that you led off with Mike Brown as LeBron’s biggest help on that squad should tell you something

@ac_eds_ @LukaDoncicStanD Yeah 2009 the winningest team of his career and it was with a bunch of scrubs. He was an unbelievable basketball machine. Nothing like it before or since

@LukaDoncicStanD 2009 LeBron. Absolutely unreal athleticism and motor with already very high BBIQ. Don’t confuse team success with individual ability; those 1st stint CLE teams were literally bottom-3 rosters and Bron dragged them to 60 wins.

@GLIAClegend @Federic40255760 @lisanalcraig @Travis_Sawchik Using that guy’s logic, since average FB velocity is up since 2010, we should have seen someone eclipse it. Obviously that measurement must be wrong otherwise there would be guys getting past it since we “know” everyone throws harder now!

@roccoofrhode @lisanalcraig @Travis_Sawchik But it's still worth ridiculing the position since a) there were no reliable measures back then and b) how come nobody else ever since touched 106 while he was up to 108? Especially when we have guys sitting 100, which he was not

@morepellent @Travis_Sawchik How is “power model” not a choice? Hitters are selected/trained for power hitting, not for ability to avoid Ks. Batting averages would likely be going down regardless of pitch velocity because as you stated, no one values it.

@roccoofrhode @Travis_Sawchik Is here. Because they need to try and convince you the power model is a choice, not a response to pitching thats harder to make contact with, because everything they preach is reliant on being able to make contact essentially whenever you want.

@LevAkabas Nice data, matches up with eye test. Wild to see how fast “team offense” dries up when bad defenders are taken off the floor in the playoffs.

@lisanalcraig @Travis_Sawchik Yes I agree it’s very fair to question it. But it is not fair to ridicule it as impossible because you have a chart of average speeds going up over the last 15 years.

@CrS_dium @tangotiger What is “modern era?” Last 15 years? Yes I believe it’s possible that in a test of speed one guy from the previous 120 years of baseball threw a ball slightly harder than any recorded pitch in the last 15. And if the calibration was slightly off and he “only” threw 105, so what?

@roccoofrhode @tangotiger The fastest pitch recorded in the modern era is 105.8. 107 is significantly higher considering the margins you’re getting into and considering basically all emphasis is placed on velocity nowadays you think no one would’ve hit it by now?
