Strait no longer represent 20% of the oil supply. UAE and Saudi Arabia have increased their production bypassing the strait with at least 9m bpd. Other countries also increasing output including Venezuela and the US. All of these moves will help mitigate the full effect of the closure of the strait. Issues involving fertilizer, jet fuel, etc. still persist but even those impacts are being lessened by proactive moves elsewhere. This isn’t 1978 or even 2022, many more relevant players involved than in the past.

I’m afraid that if President Trump really wants to continue the blockade for months while minimising the impact on US consumers, there’s only a (bad) way: more SPR releases and/or oil export restrictions. The White House has consistently said neither is on the table. Let’s see.
