#BrainOnFire also brilliantly highlights the need for a strong support system and #advocates to speak on our behalf when we are unable to. Thank you to @netflix for making this incredible film and to @scahalan for bravely sharing her story with the world
An extremely important, eye-opening read from one of my favorite authors/people, @scahalan, on the truth about this country’s mental health crisis and how much — or, perhaps more accurately, how disconcertingly little — has changed over the years. nypost.com/2018/07/07/the…
Great story re: how a book by one of my favorite people (& one of my favorite authors) helped a woman w/ the same rare autoimmune disease get the proper diagnosis. BTW, if you’ve not yet read @scahalan’s brilliant memoir, “Brain On Fire,” you should. today.com/video/how-the-…
@scahalan@nypost What I always tell my patients with mental illness is that if they are told by a health provider that their problem is in their head as the first comment not only do they seek care elsewhere but they should say, “You are right because that’s where my brain is.”
