This is more of an American cope. We have no idea how to develop soccer talent. Our soccer players are known to be very athletic... they just don't have the skill. We know how to develop athletes. Developing skill is a different animal.
CoffeeBlackMD@CoffeeBlackMD

So many in the world hate to hear an America point out that our vast athletic talent, if directed at soccer, would make the US a clear dominating presence, indefinitely. They know it’s true. Deep down. But have to cope hard because it’s the last thing left that they have.

@barshoelife How many world class sprinters switched to soccer after their track career? I'll wait.

4 year USA soccer plan: recruit. get every skill player that gets cut from nfl rosters. every g league basketball player that can't make it to the nba. get em all on the pitch. practice for 3 years together. guarantee we win the world cup in 2030.

The idea that we can simply take a bunch of NFL DBs and wide receivers and turn them into elite soccer players within a few years or less is full blown retarded. Any such take is idiotic. There is way more to the sport than athleticism. smh

So much more to the game than running fast with the ball. How many top level athletes from another sport gravitate to golf and compete at the highest level? Tony Romo is one of the best and can't even qualify for a U.S. Open. Soccer is no different. There are numerous other skills that need to be developed to become elite.

Time to put away my soccer viewing habit for another four years. The MLB All-Star Game is next week!

Meanwhile, it looks like this clown is finally gonna go away. It's incredible to me with everything the Dems have hurled at Trump that they were willing to look away from this dude's issues because they so desperately wanted to be the majority in the senate. Ok, back to our regularly scheduled program. What are you doing today if you are over 50 to keep your ass out of the nursing home when you are 80? My back has been jacked up for a week since I played golf. Itching to get back to picking up some iron.

That's a wrap... I look forward to tomorrow's games and the next round, particularly Norway vs England.

@3four3 And yet, that never translates into a big run at the World Cup, so maybe something needs to change?

As a proud American let me be the first to congratulate Belgium. You guys were the far superior team. Granted I can’t tell if you guys are any good cause we are so pathetic but you beat us fair and square. Now in hindsight doesn’t all the bellyaching about Balogun playing seem silly?

@AlbertBreer That momentum will disappear, as it usually does. We've been here before. It's just not our sport.

I don't know soccer, but it was pretty obvious who the better team was tonight. Total beatdown. But there's real, actual momentum for the sport in the US now—and not the sort of fake momentum we've seen every now and then. We'll see what they do with it.

@AndrewWilson02 We'll see. Huge effort last night at altitude. May be tough to rebound from that and now you got Haaland to deal with.

In soccer, you can get kicked out of a game and then suspended for the next game for accidentally stepping on someone's foot. In American Football, you pretty much have to get in a legit fight, bump a ref, get multiple unsportsmanlike penalties, etc to get kicked out of a game, AND you still get to play the next game in all likelihood, unless it was really flagrant. This is why there is such a gulf between how most Americans view this silly red card nonsense, and apparently the rest of the world. Combine that with all the diving and drama queen reactions we see in soccer, it's no wonder it just doesn't catch on in the U.S.
