Sticking to my guns. I believe Mike Gillis has been hired and it’s been done for a while. Will be a great look for new leadership that they’ve been able to keep it a secret of this magnitude under wraps in Toronto. Is he comfortable working in tandem with John Chayka, or Scott White, or whoever they hire as general manager? Absolutely, because he’s been involved in the process. Would explain why the GM names didn’t emerge until later in the process. Explains why Sundin was brought in, likely for a VP role, and the timing. Gillis talk goes dark, so does Sundin. Friedman says there’s some misdirection here because they didn’t like what’s gotten out. Tracks. Gillis is hellbent on sports science. The Gary Roberts conversation tracks as well. We’ll see where that goes. Mike Gillis has big ideas that justify his oversight as Team President beyond day-to-day management of the team. This is the Toronto Maple Leafs.
