@LaraconUS @thorstenball That’s going to be an epic talk! Love Thorsten’s work. Great writer— and now I know what an abstract syntax tree is!

In the entire 3 years or so of interacting with the PHP community, I’ve paired with other devs, presented talks (and got feedback), went to meetups and had countless conversations. Mostly with men (non male devs are like ~2% of the community*). I also work as a Laravel developer.
I keep seeing this video about being a female developer going around; just wanted to share a perspective from the Laravel community.
I have experienced exactly 2 unpleasant/condescending experiences with PHP devs and they lasted less than an hour combined. I have never felt disrespected or condescended to at work or during a conference.
I’m not discounting the experience of female developers and I’m sad to see these stories and reactions. Maybe larabelles and laravel is something to consider as a support; we don’t judge devs for not using Laravel and it’s an amazing community.
*I say non male because I don’t have more specific stats
English

@rastakayakwana Nope, not “current terminology”. I chose my writing to match the survey I’m referencing. The number of female developers who responded may be about the same or lower; that’s why I said I don’t have specific stats.
Also it’s a self selecting survey, that could also affect stats.

@sifrious So Now Its male And no male? I just want to update my notes to reflect current terminology.

@sifrious I think you’re able to file a 1040-NADAWG to skip filing. Worth looking into.
