Our results show that ResBM is a new SOTA for activation compression, outperforming other results in the field. Activation compression is fundamentally difficult due to the fact activations propagate sequentially through layers, causing compression errors to accumulate with depth. ResBM is purpose built to solve these issues. To evaluate the performance of our ResBM architecture, we conduct a comparative study under compression ratios of 100x and 128x.

Today, we present ResBM (arxiv.org/pdf/2604.11947), a 128x activation compression technique for achieving SOTA training results in low-bandwidth, distributed communication settings for pipeline parallel training across the internet.
