He was told they couldn't find his diploma until his sister, whom he hadn't seen in over a year because she was on military duty, walked out carrying it.

@bcardea_ @Ligonier Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I can agree with that. However (whatever her intentions may have been) she is promoting graduate degrees and career advancement, both of which are outside the home. This does not line up with scripture's repeated exhortations to young women.

@therealAlfredH @Ligonier My interpretation of what she is saying is that it becomes an idol if it impedes on one’s ability to move forward into the calling God has placed on their lives.

@PaleBlueMomma @StonecuttrStr If you can't understand that some skills are more masculine than others, it is of no benefit to engage with you in discourse Even saying this to you will probably be unprofitable but it's always worth a shot

My 4 year old boy roped my wife into buying him his own hammer at the farm store yesterday. This evening I walked outside to him hammering my deck screws into a block of wood in the backyard (I bought a bucket of 1000 years ago and have no current plans for them). My natural reaction is to tell him that those cost money so we shouldn’t waste them (a true statement and a lesson we’ll have to learn someday), but then I caught myself. How proud would I be in a few years to have a boy under the age of 10 who can hammer a nail with a higher level of skill than most men these days? How about if my 4 year old could do that? Well, that’s an easy question to answer. So instead I took his picture and told him how cool he was. He finished the day with 21 screws hammered home in that stump. He started and finished every one himself, and he only bent and broke 1 along the way. Any chance you get to foster a love for hard work and masculine skills in your boys, take it. $3.87 worth of screws will be nothing in comparison to a capable man to carry on your name.

Did you know Antonio Vivaldi, the composer of "The Four Seasons," was a catholic priest? Antonio Vivaldi was an ordained Catholic priest, known as "The Red Priest" because of his red hair. He suffered from severe asthma ("tightness of the chest"), which prevented him from praying Mass, so he was given a dispensation to compose music to glorify God instead. He wrote much of his music for an orphanage of girls run by nuns.

Bad news. The racial demographic of the West has been changed permanently. Your government barely has the stomach to deport murderous criminals, let alone preserve a homeland for it’s culture and it’s people. Listen closely. There will be no mass deportations. There will be no stop to the millions of third worlders immigrating to the West. There will be no end to the globalist agenda because any solution to it is beyond your means or control. This is not a defeatist mentality, this is a reality check. An accurate assessment of our situation and using history as our model indicates we have only two options for the course of the Western world. Most likely, we will see a Balkanization and a hyper violent civil conflict that will tear the West apart and cost millions of lives. That’s what the pattern in history would indicate is the most likely course. Yet there is another path, a less likely one and one that has even fewer examples in the blood soaked pages of human history. Let me tell you a story. Stranded almost 2,000 miles from home in the disastrous Valdivia shipwreck in the shallows of Las Víboras, 20 men managed to cling desperately to a life boat and survive drowning. Of the 20 men, only 8 survived the arduous trip; being dragged by the currents of the northern Caribbean sea to the coast of Yucatán. Of those 8 who reached the coast, all but 2 were violently sacrificed and cannibalized in religious rituals by the Mayans. The only survivors were a priest named Jerónimo de Aguilar and a sailor named Gonzalo Guerrero. The two men fled inland where they found safety in the welcoming arms of a peaceful tribe, who they lived among for eight long years. It was after almost a decade in a foreign land that, upon hearing of Hernan Cortes arrival in 1519, the priest Jerónimo paddled out to meet the newly landed Conquistadors on the coast of Cozumel. Despite approaching them with the appearance of a Mayan, now dark with tanned skin, long hair and wearing loin cloths, he cried out from the boat to the soldiers with four simple words in broken Spanish, which made the cautious Spaniards immediately lower their weapons and welcome their brother with many tears and warm embraces. Those four simple words, to be fully understood, must be contrasted with the story of the other fellow survivor, the sailor Gonzalo, who himself became fully assimilated into the rival culture. While Gonzalo married a Mayan woman who bore him three children, Jerónimo remained faithful to his priestly vows and refused the young women whom the chief presented him with. While Gonzalo covered his body with tribal tattoos, pierced his ears and wore a hunk of jade in his lower lip, the priest Jerónimo always held out hope of rescue; having kept his mind sharp by counting the days since he landed on the shores of this foreign land. Under the torn rags of his outer cloak, Jerónimo kept an old tattered prayer book that had survived the shipwreck so many years ago. Gonzalo on the other hand, refused to even set out with Jerónimo to investigate the claim that Conquistadors had landed, and had no interest in meeting with the men of his former homeland or of ever returning there. And so the priest Jerónimo set off in a small boat, prayer book clutched tightly to his chest, to find his fellow countrymen. That morning, on the shores of Cozumel he caught sight of massive Brigantines that had been anchored. His heart stirred within him, and what was once a distant memory of rescue was now finally within reach. He paddled out within earshot of the men unloading the giant ships. He could see they were clad in armor that shimmered in the light of the rising sun, but he couldn't yet make out their features. So he cried out to them. He could have cried out that he was a fellow Spaniard, but so was his compatriot Gonzalo. The sailor Gonzalo became so fully immersed in the Mayan culture that he would later die by Spanish swords while fighting alongside Mayan warriors. Clearly there was a driving force spurring the priest Jerónimo on that superseded culture, homeland or even ethnicity. And so after the immense hardships of living eight years in a foreign land, and resisting all attempts at assimilation into a foreign culture and ethnic group, Jerónimo cried out in disjointed Spanish from years of disuse: "Brothers, are you Christian?" Beyond the geography of being European, and even beyond the culture of the Spaniards at the time, the cry revealed a deep seated spiritual conviction, bound by the person of Christ. It was this conviction that gave the Spanish culture it’s shape, their homeland a foundation of unity, and their ethnicity a place to express itself uniquely. It was this cry that revealed the foundation and the very source from which all those other social expressions are derived. But you see, this story isn't really about the priest Jerónimo. It's about the fate of our Western society as a whole. Don't misinterpret the truth of the matter here, as this is not an advocation for open borders or mass immigration. We can see that is clearly not working. In order for a society to function it's people must share the same language, the same culture, and the same heritage. What I am saying though, is that there’s an ideal that supersedes all those other things, from which they get their origin. More importantly than all these things, a society must have a hierarchy of values and ideals. There is only one construct that molds a culture and a people and their values to itself. That ideal is Christ. That construct that molds the culture to resemble Him, is His Word. The foundation of a nation is its spiritual conviction. Everything else is downstream of that. Your nation is Christian. Your laws and morality are Christian. Your sons and daughters are Christian. At least, they used to be. And now that Christendom has removed God from his rightful place in our society, we find ourselves in a chapter out of the Camp of the Saints book. But here’s the good news. At the start of this I told you there was an alternative path for us that would spare us Balkanization and a hyper violent civil conflict that would tear the nation apart and cost millions of lives. Listen closely. What separated the priest Jerónimo and the sailor Gonzalo was not ethnicity, for they were the same race of men. It was not the country of their birth, for they were both born in the sprawling hillsides and mountains of Spain. It was not their language, nor even their culture, as even those things changed for both men in those eight years of exile. What separated those two men, what made them so uniquely different at their core, is the only thing that will save us now in this new world of ethnic upheaval and social conflict. It is Christ. We are either going to have a revival in this nation, where men of every tribe and tongue and nation join together in their worship of Christ and their adherence to His commands, or we will plunge into a thousand years of darkness and destruction that will make post-war Germany look like a cake walk. You need to understand that it’s going to be very difficult. It’s going to be messy. Cultures clash, people are prone to conflict, and the New Testament is full of examples of the strife of Greeks living along side ethnic Jews and Roman citizens. But the New Testament also shows that it can be done, because when a people put Christ and the Word as their foundation, the culture will begin to take that shape, the people will learn to communicate because they have a unified purpose, and cohesion and peace will be an inevitable outcome. No one is asking you to throw away your ethnic lineage or your proud history. New Testament Greeks didn’t stop speaking Koine Greek, and the Romans didn’t cease to be citizens of the Empire, and the Jews didn’t throw away their traditions when all these people groups began to worship Christ. On the contrary. Jews provided the religious foundation and the lineage of Jesus, Greeks provided the common language and philosophical mindset of Hellenism, and Romans provided the infrastructure, peace of Pax Romana and the military force projection that allowed Christianity to explode across the face of the earth. There is a purpose for your nation and your people, a reason for your history and lineage, but it will only be realized under the banner of Christ. That’s it. Those are the only two options for the course of the West. If we are going to survive, if we are to understand who our true compatriots are, then there is only one question that needs to be asked on the shores of this new foreign world we find ourselves in. "Brothers, are your Christian?"

I’m seeing people publicly criticizing this post. Here are a few thoughts… 1) It’s the Lord’s Day. Criticizing the sanctity of marriage, especially today, is distasteful. Log off. 2) Marriage should not be rash, but neither should it be slow and dragged along. James found the girl, proposed, and tied the knot. Good on him. Modernity would have tempted James to wait till after the primary… then wait for the general… then wait to be installed… then wait until reelection… etc… etc… etc. This is folly. Go get the girl. Everything else can wait. 3) Some people are saying James was recently dating someone else. Respectfully, pound sand. It’s not your business. The most loving thing a man can do is not procrastinate in ending a relationship with the girl he knows he should not marry, and not procrastinate in marrying the girl he knows he should. 4) To @j_fishback: You got the girl. Now the proof is in the pudding. You will prove all your detractors foolish by keeping her. The best revenge is a life well lived. In this case, the best revenge is a marriage well lived out. -Love her as Christ love the Church. -Wash her and sanctify her in the Word. -Lead her with Christ’s authority. -And give her godly offspring who rise up and call her blessed. Finally, So long as you continue to magnify Christ, you have all my support. Forever at your service. Christ is King.
