@MTMehan Too obvious to suggest Increase Mather (former president of Harvard) and his son Cotton Mather (minister at Old North Meeting House in Boston)?

Help wanted for my book: Looking for amazing early American names, first & last, preferably w/ animal references intermingled. My mom gave me one from her uncle, found in an old Michigan cemetery: Newt Tipsword! Amazing! The Puritans had amazing names. Whatcha got! (RT too!)

Dear friends, it's now public, but on Friday, I lost my brother Shaun. He died at the age of 41. Obviously, this is devastating for us as a family. My kiddos loved Uncle Shaun--he was luminously playful with them. I admired so much his commitment to friendship and accompanying all friends in need. I pray that he's enjoying the presence of God face-to-face; and I also pray that he is atoning for throwing a toy truck at my head when we were young. He was the younger, albeit much stronger and bigger brother.

@drfeifei has helped me articulate with greater differentiation the uniqueness of human consciousness. Highly recommend her book The Worlds I See.

Fei-Fei Li (@drfeifei) on limitations of LLMs. "There's no language out there in nature. You don't go out in nature and there's words written in the sky for you.. There is a 3D world that follows laws of physics." Language is purely generated signal.

Veysey's book is important, but I'd argue that Clark Kerr's The Uses of the University is more significant for explaining where we are today, and Newman's Idea of a University is more important for thinking about where we must go. chronicle.com/article/the-bo…

@timothypmuldoon I totally agree humanities have an important role to play but I think these aspects are true for most disciplines. The key is integrating AI knowledge into their education and raising the bar on their expected skills (no more "hand in an essay" stuff).

@miserabiliter Glad I'm not the only one who believes that written and oral languages are fundamentally different.

Clearly diverging from my humanities colleagues on this, but there’s no worse way to communicate a conference paper than by just reading it out. Dry, boring and artless, and weirdly disconnected from how effective oral communication works.

Conscientiousness will separate those who just survive from those who thrive in the 21st century. We can each decide which half of that divide we fall on — but ironically that will take some dedication. Here’s my article in full: ft.com/content/5cd77e…
