We are determined to deliver our Employment Rights Bill - Tory peers in the House of Lords need to let us get on with the job and honour the mandate we were elected on: to Make Work Pay.

An important and welcome commitment from ⁦@DavidLammy⁩. ET fees would price out workers seeking justice and do nothing to fix the broken Tribunal system the Tories left behind. theguardian.com/money/2025/oct…

Our flagship policy of delivering the biggest upgrade in workers rights for a generation should not be undermined in this way- Labour considering charging workers for employment tribunal claims, sources say | Employment tribunals | The Guardian theguardian.com/money/2025/oct…

Superb submission from @GMB_union to transport select committee. Algorithmic pay transparency is a regulatory must have.

Lords amendments were cooked up by the Tories and Lib Dems deliberately to weaken the rights in the Bill and undermine Labour's manifesto commitment. Absolutely correct that they are removed from the Bill, so we can get it passed and get on with implementing it properly, so it makes a real difference to working people.
Pippa Crerar@PippaCrerar

NEW: Downing Street says it will reverse all Lords amendments to employment rights bill which watered it down & that legislation has “absolute backing” of the reshuffled govt. PM’s spox says there will be close work with biz groups about implementation.

You know who doesn't allow trophies unless everyone gets one in youth sports? Norway. You know who is excelling at the highest level in sports? Norway. The "participation trophy" complaints are BS. We ARE achievement focused in the US in youth sports AND schools. And it doesn't work that well. Just ask a coach or teacher. Schools are entirely focused on test scores, because that's what their evaluation and funding are tied to. An excessive focus on achievement generally loses talent. They quit sports and become apathetic and uninterested in school. Research shows us that a teaching environment that supports and emphasized mastery, where students focused on the process of learning and comprehension instead of a comparison to others is linked to better grades. And more importantly stoking intrinsic motivation and promoting challenge seeking. It's the same in sports. It's not that we don't need competition...It's that we already live in a world with a ton of it...and excess comparison. When we add fuel to that fire, it pushes the vast majority of people to fear of failure and avoidance. Mastery approaches balance out the equation. So...don't listen to Vivek. Go see what Norway is doing where you can't keep score until age 13...and their motto is "Joy of Sport for All." They keep more talent in the system, develop intrinsic motivation, and thrive at the elite level. Our survival of the fittest system loses talent along the way...

We don’t need to emulate Soviet-style education, but what we do need is a return to the true American spirit of rewarding achievement over victimhood. That doesn’t start in college, it starts young.

The government's SSP reforms are badly needed to stop low-paid workers falling into poverty when sick. No-one should find themselves worse off after the changes than they would be today.
Johanna Baxter MP@JohannaBaxter

The pandemic exposed the woeful inadequacy of the previous Gvt’s statutory sick pay provisions. I’m pleased the Minister has agreed to meet with me to discuss the provisions with the employment rights bill to ensure all workers receive proper statutory sick pay 👇

Wilson and Palmer, Kostal and now Livv Housing. Time and again bad employers have tried to exploit legal loopholes to undermine workers' collective voice. Unions will fight them in the workplace, in the courts and politically.
Anneliese Midgley MP@anneliese_midge

🧵This week I led a debate on a dispute in my constituency between @unitetheunion and @unisontheunion workers and Livv Housing—the largest housing association in Knowsley. Instead of meaningfully engaging with unions, Livv is attacking collective bargaining, offering pay rise only those NOT in a trade union. This has to stop. That’s why I called on the Government to amend the Employment Rights Bill to close what appears to be a loophole.

NEW | The government has announced a Seafarers’ Charter. This charter is urgently needed - it will improve security, pay and conditions for thousands of seafarers. For too long, seafarers have been exposed to hyper-exploitation and a lack of enforceable rights. This was tested to destruction during the P&O scandal when 800 workers staff were sacked brutally and illegally over Zoom. This legislation will help level the playing field for good employers. This announcement is another reminder of why Labour’s Make Work Pay Agenda is so important. Everybody deserves to be treated fairly at work.
