This may be a hot take. BUT! I’m not convinced it should take 3 years to propose to someone. Even 2. If you’ve been dating someone exclusively for 1 year & you STILL don’t know if you’d spend the rest of your life with them…. Then you’ll probably end up divorced in the long run.

I encounter precisely the same problem at my very terrestrial job. Astronauts: They’re just like us!

#NEWS 🚨: Artemis II crew experienced issues with Outlook this morning and had to ask ground crew for assistance "We have two Microsoft Outlooks and neither one is working"

@tunatweets I think Zechariah is an awesome name, nickname Zeke! (It means “God remembers”, but that has nothing to do with how cool it sounds). 😃

@GregPearcey @lynssss3125 Lmfao. You can draw up legal documents to protect against that as well. Again, if this is how you see marriage, it’s a good thing you’re staying away from it.

@tunatweets @lynssss3125 Having a Will and Power of Attorney covers all that whether you're married or not. The only person who benefits from marriage is the one who can take half of their spouse's assets and income whenever they decide to.

@Commonconcrete Dealing with grumbly, malicious humans is less daunting to me than the sort of vertigo-y feeling of knowing you are floating in nothing and the safety of Earth is so far below. I’d probably be ok even if I was actually on the moon. Floating detached creeps me out these days.

@tunatweets There’s a fine line between courage and stupidity. Consider Cristobal Colombo halfway through the first Atlantic crossing. No hope of rescue, mutinous muttering in the crew.

@Commonconcrete I mean, maybe it’s because you don’t hear it anymore, but if my name was Zechariah, I wouldn’t name my kid after myself, either 😂

@tunatweets Meh. Dopey. But it really isn’t new. In Luke 1:13 God’s angel tells Zechariah to name his unborn son John (later the baptist). When the baby comes (Luke 1:58), the relatives complain to mom Elizabeth that they should name him after his dad. Zech straightens ‘em out. 😃 ⚡️

@GregPearcey @lynssss3125 I mean, you should, at least for the purposes of taxes, and stuff like power of attorney, right of survivorship, and advocacy during medical emergencies. Marriage is the easiest way, otherwise you should draw up a bunch of legal documents to guarantee the same protections.

@lynssss3125 What if you just don't care about 'marriage' in the eyes of the law or religion?

@TheDilemmaLama @lynssss3125 Tax & legal benefits/protections. If you’re entering marriage already strategizing about potential future divorce, then you’re right to stay away from it entirely.

@lynssss3125 Why do you need to marry to spend your life together? Marriage just means financial ruin if you do split up and it doesn't stop anyone cheating. Until the sexist divorse laws change I won't propose to anyone.

@lynssss3125 It depends. My parents dated for a year and ultimately divorced. My husband and I were engaged after 13 months (3 of which he was in boot camp), and every day I am more and more sure that he is my soulmate. I think it depends how you approach dating itself.

@oliveegger The Batman and Remember Me are the obvious answers. I liked his performance in Mickey 17, and remember him being excellent in Water for Elephants — that was the performance that made me realize he was absolutely wasted by the Twilight movies.

@RichardSchiffm8 @Knesix I was 13, still 3 years from learning I couldn’t be an astronaut. Columbia was both tragic and frustrating (they were RIGHT there, almost home). It annoys me more people don’t remember it, but then, it also annoys me that people don’t seem to realize how rare the tragedies are.

@Knesix People in the comments section: “I remember exactly where I was when the Challenger exploded in 1986!” I ask if they remember the Space Shuttle Colombia blowing up in 2003. People in the comments section: “I don’t remember that. 2003 was a long time ago” And 1986 wasn’t???

@mercernole2021 @Knesix This. I witnessed Columbia as a kid, but I also watched dozens of other safe launches and landings. It’s always a little harrowing, but it drives into stark relief how few people regularly tune in for space stuff.

@Knesix Why? Have you not watched any other launch since then? More than 600 people have gone to space since Challenger including on other shuttles

@TheCriticalDri2 I was reading about that in an article a while back, those guys have to abstain from DRINKING WATER for like two days before filming in order to be dehydrated so that they can be cut like that. But holding in your gut is too much to ask.

@TheCriticalDri2 @Nerdrotics I hate that actors are expected to do this to themselves. Every time I see it, I’m just like, “Can they please have some water and a burger?” Chicken and rice for months and being dehydrated sounds MISERABLE.
