🇳🇬 JUST IN: “Silence Is No Longer an Option” - Obidient Movement Calls Nationwide Protest to Defend Nigeria’s Democracy The Obidient Movement has called for an immediate nationwide protest, declaring that Nigeria has reached a dangerous turning point where silence is no longer an option. In a strongly worded statement released today, the group warned that the country’s democratic foundations are under serious threat, pointing to growing concerns around the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and increasing pressure on opposition voices. According to the movement, when institutions meant to protect the will of the people begin to lose public trust, democracy itself is at risk — and citizens have a responsibility to act. The group is demanding the immediate resignation of the INEC Chairman over what it described as a loss of neutrality and public confidence. It also called for an end to political intimidation and the targeting of opposition figures, warning that Nigeria’s multi-party system must not be allowed to collapse. They further insisted on full respect for party independence, including the internal affairs of opposition parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which they say must be free from interference. As part of its response, the movement announced the start of a coordinated nationwide peaceful protest under the banner #OccupyINEC, to take place across all states and the Federal Capital Territory. In Abuja, protesters are expected to gather at the ADC National Headquarters before proceeding in a peaceful march to the INEC Headquarters, with further details to be communicated. The Obidient Movement made it clear that the action is not driven by anger, but by a sense of duty to protect Nigeria’s democratic future. “Nigeria must not become a one-party state. We will remain peaceful, lawful, and resolute until what is right is done.”
