one of the main areas WIP i really need to level up my trenchbroom skills, everything you can see here is misaligned by 1 or 2 grind points. at this point I should scrap it and start over to please my OCD. #godot #gamedev

@big_bird810 looks nice! also - the fact that at early stage we already see a fov slider in the settings, you could not ask for a better sign of things to come hahah

Nearly have all the settings finished! working through the last technical issues before I touch up the art assets and add a bunch of QOL settings. I will tackle input rebinding at some point, but I need to finish the weapon stuff before that can happen! #gamdev #indiedev

@veselith_ Jesus that stuff is a nightmare to set up in unity, congrats on getting it to look and work so nice!

@Magic_Nipples I love the fact that every time I see your posts on my timeline the vending machine situation is becoming progressively more crazy. Great work!

No, a bunch of cans does not actually crash the game.

@veselith_ Thanks! IRL it makes it look like the dot is somewhere far forward. Very easy to simulate with a bump offset node in most engines.

@MrJackphil yeah, I mean I was kinda narrow minded, it was a matter of running the script that will just build the map on selected interval, no idea why I just assumed I have to press the button. Simple automations for the win, thanks again.

okay, I am also using func_godot but never explored the possibility of runtime map building. I just assumed that I have to manually press build map after I make some changes and never thought any of it. This is opening a new realm of possibilities and I am thankful that you showcased that. Cheers!

some more half life inspired interactions while I slowly work on implementing an intractable PC to the scene: - cool sparks on selected collisions if there is enough force applied - you can ride picked up objects (not intended) #godot

@big_bird810 this is mostly why I even played around with that. I do not have use for such interactions for now, just wanted to see how annoying they are with implementation. But yes, precisely the pure fun of interacting with boxes in half life was my inspiration here.

@veselith_ The boxes remind me of the cardboard boxes from half life 2, so much fun throwing those at npcs lmao

well, I do not consider myself a creative person, I am very analytical, which makes coming out with new ideas almost impossible. Games that I do like make such a big impression on me that sometimes I subconsciously start planning "my idea" that is waaay to close to the original. so at the moment I am starting with a base that is not original at all and then try to look for inspiration outside of the gaming space. I consider architecture that I enjoy to influence the design of the level, I look at my other non-gaming hobbies and what I do enjoy in them to maybe get some ideas from that. Same for audio, themes, etc. If I spend too much time thinking about the idea for game from the perspective of my interests within the gaming space my ideas are starting to be way too similar to what we can already find. but I am probably not the best person to talk about ideas, as I never fully realized any of them, still working on it :)

@veselith_ Yeah, is just that I feel like I'm being forced to add a spin, very rarely I play a game and say: this would be perfect if... What do you do when you plan your own spin on a game? (also yeah, I stay on Linux as much as I can nowadays :))

Why do you keep making games? I get super motivated playing something awesome, then think 'I want to make that!'... but it already exists. Suddenly the spark dies and 'what if X but Y?' feels pointless. Feeling lost as an indie dev, any advice? #indiedev #gamedev
