I'm sure no expert, I have to believe a big part of it is just the passion of the partners in the PE firms for the industry. The ENVE announcement more or less said as much, I guess the lead acquirer is a cyclist and Enve customer. Gotta do something with your money... but I'd love to hear from someone well informed about it. As for the XC ski brands, among the cool kids they're already cool ;)

If I had to guess, driven by scrutiny of Amer debt now that they're public. The musical chairs of brands & PE firms in the sports world is entertaining. FWIW Arcteryx seems to be gaining ground on Patagonia at Silicon Valley networking events.

@whennotcycling @KarlEtzel Very hard with the required brevity of Twitter to respond. For sure, PE in consumer brands is fraught. Especially with premium, performance brands, PE’s demands for high growth can kill authentic. North Face puffy jackets with hip-hop culture is Exhibit A.

In the highest office of the land, it is unacceptable to refuse a cognitive test. For any candidate, in any party. You have to be able to do the job.

I'm furious with these people. Monthly subscriptions of all sorts have me to a breaking point. But it's the ones that companies try to sneak in, like @eightsleep did with me (and presumably everyone else) that frost me. Just found it, but no refund offered.

Has anyone had challenges with @eightsleep and their automatic charges for subscriptions? I bought one just over a year ago and didn't know I was going to get charged $200 for a subscription a year later. Just showed up on my statement. Contacted customer support. No luck, bucko

@matsleder @bariweiss @TheFP @uaustinorg 💯 agree, Mats! I’ve paired my news consumption down to only 2 sources: @TheFP and @TheEconomist. Both paid, and I’m happy to do it. I’ve lost faith in anything else to represent an honest, unbiased point of view. No source is perfect, but these two are pretty damn good.

Just attended a breakfast with @bariweiss. The emerging momentum building around her work at @TheFP as well as the new University she is part of @uaustinorg gives me hope. We need courageous voices like hers defending the values and virtues that have built the world most of us are so lucky to be part of but also resisting and rejecting ideas that so clearly will lead all of us to further polarization, dehumanization, and decline. Most of us feel politically homeless and are not well represented by either media, politics, or our academic institutions. Bari is part of a new media landscape committed to the kind of values core to most Americans but sadly drowning in the extremism dominating too many of our institutions. THANK YOU BARI!
