In both my own experience and others’ footage of protests, I’ve noticed that young women are usually the ones raising middle fingers at anti-immigration activists. It’s a strange phenomenon. Perhaps they think it’s their only way of showing their strong disapproval of their opponents in the moment, a sign of their impotence, or perhaps they have no real argument to put on a placard. Whatever the reason, it’s ugly and very different to how most women usually conduct themselves in public. (I took both these photos at the NSV’s remigration march in Leuven on Thursday)

@JournoMaddie Was it mainly women doing that?

@wickedphysick Yes. Most of the men looking out of windows just watched. Middle fingers were usually from women.

Many students gave rude gestures, shouted and even threw food, waste and fireworks onto the remigration march in Leuven but this is the one who stands out to me. This young woman is standing in a beautifully decorated room, apparently part of the university. It looks to be a few hundred years old, cared for and conserved by her ancestors so that she can use it today. The activists who she hates demand remigration because they believe it’s necessary to save the culture that created this room and the university she attends. In other words, these activists are campaigning so more women can have the life she has. And she hates them for it.

I’m Emily. A Reform UK Councillor from Portsmouth, new to X. I stepped up because, as a young woman, I’m worried about where our country is heading. Sometimes I don’t feel safe walking home at night and that isn’t right. We can do better. Safer streets, stronger communities. 🩵
