Trump is losing his shit. Some of his bluster and bravado is to counteract fear - in fact, fear is always a defining emotion of a malignant narcissist, especially one in decline.
Normal people cannot fathom how acutely a malignant narcissist feels the various versions of fear - terror, dread, desperation, and panic.
He's terrified he'll lose the broad perception of grandiosity he's put forth and never regain it back, and he dreads the prospect of being humiliated and ridiculed, and he's desperate to avoid being seen - not only as fallible, but as a loser, forever.
The panic sets in when he's feeling trapped and realizes he has limited time left. We're seeing that now.
