@chesterbelloc3 Also it’s still required to do some equivalent penance. But isn’t it easier to just do the traditional abstinence?

@yipopov @OwenBenjamin i'm not makin it up lol, look up a diagram of the Orion re-entry capsule. it has 12 RCS thrusters, 6 for pitch and 6 for roll. obviously it's designed to have aerodynamic stability also, but without RCS, maneuvering in a vacuum is impossible.

So an object shaped like this hits earths atmosphere going 25,000 mph and slows down over hundreds of miles. Quick question. How do they know it won’t start spinning like a bullet or tumbling like a football? Those are the options. That’s why there’s rifling on guns so it spins creating a straighter shot. I only want answers from people who truly believe their answer is accurate. No sarcasm from people making fun of it. There’s been a sarcasm/real singularity recently and I actually can’t tell the difference. Go! Debunk me! Btw minimal spin or tumble would turn the inside of the capsule into a blood blender

@rjheathfield @OwenBenjamin I don’t, I just think it makes sense to use the shape and weight distribution of the capsule to stabilize and control it. The air flow is free, thruster fuel is not.

@yipopov @OwenBenjamin Yes, but you seem to think that "it just seems dumb to use in the atmosphere instead of an aerodynamic solution", so no doubt you have a less 'dumb' way to do it, yes?

Under international law, transit through waterways like the Strait of Hormuz must remain open and free of charge. This is what leaders made clear in their call on reopening the Strait today. Any pay-for-passage scheme will set a dangerous precedent for global maritime routes. Iran has to abandon any plan to levy transit fees. Europe will play its part in restoring the free flow of energy and trade, once a ceasefire takes hold. The EU’s Aspides naval mission is already operating in the Red Sea and can be quickly strengthened to protect shipping across the region. This could be the fastest way to provide support.

@eurofounder @kajakallas Would Minix count, or are there too many American entanglements? If so I suspect government issue laptops would all have to run Oberon instead.

I’ve repeatedly had massive stoushes when arriving at a new parish and replacing “gluten-free” breads (invalid matter) with “low-gluten” hosts. “Gluten-free” in Australia means no gluten; in the rest of the world “gluten-free” means less than 20 parts per million. My greatest peace-keeping solution: buy imported Eucharistic breads from Poland which contain 6 ppm. They are labeled “Gluten-free” because they meet EU standards. Everybody’s happy.
Crémieux@cremieuxrecueil

In double-blind placebo-controlled trials, 'gluten-sensitive' people who *think* they're going to eat gluten have reactions. But if they don't expect gluten, there's no reaction. Expectancy has a bigger effect than actually eating gluten!

@escapefrommelos They don’t avoid it, they normalize it. A 4 on the Bristol scale is probably considered severe constipation there.

genuinely how did people eat like this every day before ubiquitous clean running water and soap… how did they wash hands to avoid food poisoning, how did they get the inevitable grease stains out of clothing

Question. If all smart aerodynamicists know that it’s impossible to make a frustum shaped capsule, why would NASA choose that particular shape for its fake space capsule instead of the smooth sphere of the Vostok and Voskhod capsules? Why have all these extra steps in the story when there already exists a shape that even non-aerodynamicists will intuitively understand?

@Rightanglenews I suspect that even infants are far more intellectually capable than they are able to express with language. The boy probably already knows intuitively what the concept of a reprobate is, having had two of them foisted upon him.

Two gay men in Nashville are sparking nationwide outrage after recording a video of themselves mocking the baby they had via surrogacy as it cries for its mother for content. Man: “Who do you want, Dada or Pop?” Baby: “Mama” Man: “No, there is no mama.” Baby: cries

@levelsio It's really bad in Denmark too. The degrowth/net-zero nonsense has sunk into the unconsciousness to a degree where they don't even notice or question the insanity. Like laughing gas being discouraged for births because of CO2 impact??? dr.dk/nyheder/indlan…

When I meet most Europeans these days I wanna shake them and shout WAKE UPPPPPPP They're all captivated by the mind virus My Dutch friend said he's doing great because he has no kids so he's not a "big burden on society" eco wise My French friend said she avoids flying at all cost to save the environment WAKE UP!!!!!

Problem? Przy zbyt długich nazwach plików (np. PDF) pulpit się zawieszał w nieskończonej pętli. Kamila dodała limit iteracji + ochronę przed dzieleniem przez zero i błędnymi obliczeniami.

@AssBread3 @OwenBenjamin I find that explanation much less credible than the official one of passive aerodynamic stability, which fits more with how we build every single other flying vehicle.

@OwenBenjamin re-entry capsules have what's called RCS thrusters, or reaction control system. it's small angled jets that are used to orient the vehicle and stabilize it.

@OwenBenjamin I’m not married to the idea of space flight being a real thing that happens, but this kind of “out of a universe of possibilities only the one or two scenarios that I thought of that just so happens to support my hypothesis are possible” question begging is quite tiresome.
