The code is so bad though. Like the worst Rust code I’ve ever seen. Honestly it’s so bad I’m thinking of fully hand writing code again.

@dreamsofcode_io to minimize behavior differences, it’s intended to be a faithful port of the zig implementation to rust. an idiomatic rust redesign would not be practical to merge all at once. but it will get better piece by piece.

@dreamsofcode_io That’s the most annoying thing about the AI era. Everyone is so focused on speed and ignoring quality, like i literally haven’t seen a properly engineered product in the AI era. Quality, speed, cost. You can only pick 2.

@dreamsofcode_io Can you think of a better way to effect the change? You can’t go from idiomatic Zig to idiomatic Rust in one shot. It makes a tremendous amount of sense to do a 1:1 port with unsafe wrappers and then slowly make it Rusty. Should be no worse to start, and then slowly get better.

@dreamsofcode_io hot take: code doesn't need to be readable and clean anymore with agentic coding. new paradigm: - just vibe-shit the code - have enough tests written by ai - have enough security checks done by ai - make manual tests nobody needs to read the code anymore.
