The new re zero chapter was a very fun read but heartbreaking nevertheless, and I can't help but see there're two worrisome patterns that keeps getting repeated and effect Subaru mental state grievly, one of them is not even new, just one that is hard to ignore now

@SampsonMichae10 Steven Universe didn't have time to grapple with the ethics of redemption like invincible did, partly since I suspect it was cancelled mid storyline. Steven was more practical than naïve in his use of the diamonds and his resentment of them is evident.

Based on the little we know of Pandora, the character whose traits are closest in proximity to hers is Echidna, particularly in their desires to know and to understand.
This is why I believe that Pandora will likely receive effective, swift characterization as a foil to Echidna.

Pretending to be on the verge of death JUST to force a love confession out of the person you love is just crazy. No matter how you slice it, and regardless of whether Subaru's words here really come from the heart or are just the result of his extreme state of anxiety... what Rem is doing here is manipulative psychological abuse. It's hardly deniable that Rem took advantage of Subaru's emotionally charged, extremely frightened, agitated state and then deliberately and consciously (!) exploited this situation to her favor. This is not just some gag, and EVEN IF Rem had meant it that way (which, as I mentioned, I do NOT believe), the effect on Subaru – who is already struggling with extreme fears of loss – IS and REMAINS brutal. As a reader, you shouldn't look away from scenes like this. This IS problematic, and I'm tired that there are still people in the community who deny Rem's problematic nature, or accuse people like me of just pushing an agenda against her, or that it's just our headcanon, even though we're simply reading the novel. It's also more than questionable that Rem resorts to these measures right after Subaru confesses that he feels something for her but doesn't know exactly what it is. It's as if Rem is compulsively trying to speed up the whole thing between her and Subaru, and that's why she exploits Subaru's weak points to her advantage, because she possibly knows that Subaru would never say such things in his normal state. So it's more of a desperate attempt to squeeze the feelings out of him. Please don't get me wrong here: I am NOT saying that Rem is the devil incarnate. She isn't. Her actions are rooted in her low self-esteem and her constant search for validation, which unfortunately leads her to resort to extreme measures. But even if there are reasons for her behavior, it still doesn't justify it. #Arc3 #MemoRZ
