Innovation policy to create new breakthrough treatments for addiction is a smarter path. Unlike everything else that politicians have tried, it can actually be effective. Many of these recommendations would be of great impact at no cost to the government.

GLP-1s and addiction, "cravings are a more specific and more helpful way to look at what’s happening in addiction. And if you reduce those cravings, you can give people a chance, some space in their lives to address the other patterns, the other circumstances that have led them in that direction"

Addiction can be cured if we can get pharmaceutical companies to focus on the problem. Our publication with Federation of American Scientists proposes realistic policy interventions that can work. Excellent call to action re: addiction & biotech. Yes, drugs meant to affect behavior are challenging on all levels...all the more reasons to improve how they are designed and distributed today. ~750k deaths/year in the U.S. is staggering.
