He was the big wrestling hero in Germany and Austria in his day. He was by far the biggest drawing card of that era.

Hey @davemeltzerWON, curious about Otto Wanz. Was he considered the top star of Germany/Austria or did he just book himself to be on top forever? Watching him and Andre in 86 and the crowd is going crazy but curious his long term acceptance by fans.

@davemeltzerWON Both the shows Otto runs he booked himself as main eventer and star. But he was also the top guy by other promotors. In reality it was Nico Selenkowitsch who made Otto to the Main european Star. He thanks him that he runs Nico out of business.

Looking at photos from the 1987 CWA Gratz Tournament, a lot of international names on here, eventual winner being Tony St. Clair. Check out the group photo afterwards and try to name as many of them as you can (I 100% recognize Masa Chono in the bottom left). Also on this tour, was Otto Wanz regaining the CWA Heavyweight championship from Bull Power (Leon White/Big Van Vader/Super Vader/The Man They Call Vader), from July 11th, 1987

I didn’t know Chief Jay Strongbow hopped over to Europe in 1979 to wrestle Otto Wanz while in the middle of his blood feud with Greg Valentine in the WWF but apparently so as I just found it on one of the tapes
