@Libraryoftessa My grandma had 4 kids under 2 at one point. I can’t even imagine the logistics of trying to make that work today.

@T18121837 @NicholasFerroni Give them a $200 gift card to Staples or Walmart and they all would. Many teachers are “August poor” as they wait to start getting paid again and can’t wait for reimbursement.

@NicholasFerroni I offer my teachers up to $200 to purchase those consumables, etc. All they have to do is turn in the receipts. Not many seem to take me up on it, but a few do.

Imagine if every teacher who buys their supplies, or has a Donors Choose project or Amazon Wishlist, instead, wrote the supplies that they needed on a sign and stood in front of their school or the center of their town— people would notice.

Year in review- Several students were pulled from my class because they "didn't like me" Usually because of my behavioral and academic expectations. I followed their progress for the rest of the year and over 50% of them did worse in their new class, very few did better.
SageOnTheStage@sage_stage

Student is pulled from my class because she's "not getting along with me" On the one hand, one less student and one less distraction in class. On the other hand, they didn't even attempt to encourage her to come to class on time, stay off her phone and to do her work.

A grocery store visit is an absolutely essential itinerary line item. You walk through aisles to see the similarities/differences in foods, as well as the way they’re packaged and promoted. Fascinating stuff. It’s also where I get all my gifts and souvenirs. They will always be more authentic and cost less than tourist traps for local candies and treats.

@AshleyGWinter Interesting, I had renal carcinoma that was “assumed cancerous” my urologist didn’t do a pre-surgical biopsy because either way the tumor had to go. Took me awhile to get my head around that. But it makes sense to not poke the bear unnecessarily.

I am begging people to understand that almost every test on the planet has something called "false positives," which means a risk that a result of the test is WRONG. A WRONG result can lead to necessary fear, worry, and at worst, unnecessary INVASIVE procedures or even unnecessary surgery. The chance of someone getting a false positive goes down when the person is at a higher risk of having an actual problem (ie. A specific SYMPTOM). This is called a higher "pretest probability." This is why doctors don't recommend everyone get every test all the time.

@piper4missouri Or that we’ve taught it before. I used to teach a 12th grade British lit. class. The King James Bible is something of a “big deal” when it comes to literature and a passage or two from Psalms can work well to teach extended metaphors. But that isn’t the lesson they want.

@BasedZillenial Because the HPV vaccine is best gotten before one has any sexual contact with another person. Like or not we have pregnant 7th/8th graders in today’s world. Also menstruation is starting younger and younger than before and PCOS is often treated with BC.

Why are they pushing HPV jabs for kids as young as 9 years old and the pill for girls who are as young as 12 and 13? 🤔

@realgirl_fieri Weekly debrief on Friday or Saturday night then and game plan for the week ahead. Husband and I share Google doc that specifies a rough meal plan and things we have going on that week. Then we set the grocery order to pickup after church on Sunday.

@MadiSP4321 The Crucible is one of my favorites. I choose parts for the kids and live for the moment when Proctor catches my eye to confirm that I do in fact want him to shout WHORE! in the middle of my class.

@emilykmay The commitment I’ve see from my 9th/10th grade students when they talk about their lifeguarding jobs is reassuring. It’s a big deal and they treat it as such and they pressure the peers who don’t into either stepping up or quitting.

@OBrienSci I’ve divided summer into “themes” May=rest June=projects July=fun Aug=prepare for fall. I intentionally design the first week or two of summer as sleeping/self care and that helps immensely. It’s something like a detox of the previous school year.

It's 1998 and you're in a Church of Christ fellowship hall for a wedding reception. Your dress is itchy and your shoes pinch but you are given a clear glass cup of punch and transported to another dimension. You and the other children realize nothing matters more than getting as many refills as humanly possible before it's time to throw birdseed at the married couple as they run to a car inexplicably covered in shoe polish and shaving cream. You will never again in your whole life taste anything so delicious. If you know what I'm talking about I am begging you: WHAT is the recipe?

Can someone explain the difference between an engagement ring and a promise ring? Engagement ring is a promise to marry you in the future where as a promise ring is a promise to marry in the future? So what’s the difference?

@heymrsbond The one thing I can’t get over in the teacher/braiding situation is the exploitation of their labor. I once worked for a group home w/adults with and it was drilled into us that we couldn’t accept free labor for work that should be paid.
