Calling it now: I think Rafael Devers goes deep twice in this Phillies series and has a big road trip to snap out of his funk. Has to happen at some point. Why not now?

Good time for some to realize that 49ers drafted older, experienced players intentionally so that they could get their prime deals at a rookie contract price tag. This was considered a relatively weak draft. The one obvious edge to gain came via NIL/transfer portal revolution
David Lombardi@LombardiHimself

Higher age used to be considered a draft defect, but the 49ers are leaning heavily into the changing nature of college football. Their 3 picks taken before the "developmental" Saturday of the draft average 24.3 years in age. That's the same age or older than 12 players who'd already been on SF's roster. De'Zhaun Stribling — 23.35 Romello Height — 25.03 Kaelon Black — 24.52 The NIL/transfer portal era has created a pro-like dynamic in CFB that's yielded nuggets that would've been unimaginable just last decade: -Stribling led *3 different programs* in receiving -Height played at *5 different schools* Generally, teams want early contributions from Day 1-2 draft picks. Seems that the 49ers are betting on the pre-existing professional experience and maturity of these older prospects with plans that they'll be relatively quick contributors. NFL drafted rookie contract lasts 4 years. That means the 49ers will get the following ages at a cost-controlled price... Stribling: 23-27 Height: 25-29 Black: 24-28 Those are prime years, of course. And perhaps the new, pro-like nature of CFB has indeed combined with Father Time to harden those players for relatively early NFL action

@ImNotHuman123 Just an awful signing by Buster, everyone knew it at the time too. Pressured by the Doyers success he felt like he had to. I mean he didn't even remember how he won 3 WS. Draft your core guys, have great pitching and good defense, sign marginal FA's that put you over the top.

“I spoke to a coach NOT with the 49ers… he had Stribling rated AHEAD of Makai Lemon.” @GregCosell with an interesting note about the 49ers’ first draft pick:

If Kyle Shanahan had 25% less football IQ, they’d be a 8-9 team every year and would’ve been fired by now. I don’t care if other offensive coaches held some of these picks higher than private analysts, that doesn’t validate the pick at 33. Then why didn’t anyone else take him?
🫵👍@AndyKHLiu

The Stribling pick isn’t the problem. The problem is how they waste every single early pick the last half decade on obvious reaches. If you like em, fine. Your scouting sucks. It’s even worse cuz you can just trade back and get more picks (albeit to waste) on more bad players. They lucky Kyle is so damn good and they still have great older guys on team.

Ravens are signing former Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia to a three-year deal, per source. Pavia was supposed to try out this weekend, but the Ravens signed him in advance.

Have we reached the point where we’ve given up on Ricky Pearsall? I mean, the guy is talented, but talent doesn’t matter if you can’t stay healthy. I think 2026 is make or break for Ricky. He either makes a significant contribution this year, or his time here is probably up.

@LombardiHimself Funny how you say top 2 rounds when 3 rounds would also get you Jalen Hurd and Danny Gray.

Every single WR that Shanahan/49ers have drafted in the top-2 rounds since the failed Dante Pettis experiment (which convinced them to put a higher value on physicality) has produced when healthy. Deebo Samuel Brandon Aiyuk Ricky Pearsall 3-3. And De'Zhaun Stribling is certainly again of the physical mold

The San Francisco 49ers should hire Alec Halaby if he wants to continue his career in the NFL. He's been Howie Roseman's protege and has been helpful leading the charge with their analytics department. Here's his resume in 17 years with the Eagles: - Intern - Player personnel analyst - Special assistant to the general manager - Vice president of football operations and strategy - Assistant general manager #Eagles #49ers
Chase Senior@Chase_Senior

Another big loss for the Philadelphia Eagles front office. Assistant GM, Alec Halaby is stepping away from the organization. He was with the Eagles for 17 years and served as assistant GM under Howie Roseman since 2022. Here's Howie Roseman's statement: "Alec has been a huge part of our success, and a close friend. Although I am sad to see him leave the organization, I am excited to see what he does next. Whatever direction he decides to go, I have no doubt he is going to have great success. On behalf of the entire organization, I wish him the absolute best." #Eagles

From Mission High School to the NFL and the Seattle Seahawks, Julian Neal is the first SFUSD high school student drafted in decades. Selected in the 3rd round as the 99th pick, he’ll be representing Hunters Point and all of SF on the national stage. Let’s go, @J12_neal!

You have got to be kidding me. The State Department is putting Donald Trump’s scowling face on the U.S. passport. His signature in gold. Superimposed over the Declaration of Independence, a document literally written to get away from this exact behavior. No sitting president has ever done this. Coins, park passes, battleships, and now your passport. The man cannot find a surface he will not slap his name or face on. This is not patriotism. It is vanity.
