@gr1mmas While the fluff that was there for the Dark Eldar was awesome (that description of a Haemonculus who has a space marine hooked up on his wall was sick!), I agree that there was too little. It was very vague about who these guys were & what made them tick beyond harvesting pain.

3rd Edition rules were my favourite, loads of abstraction and allowed you to get on with the game. Crossfire also made manoeuvre an offensive tactic. I didn’t like the lack of lore in the Codex, especially as it opened with a new faction. The current DE one is a baller though
Cromwell300 (Coms open)@AndrewZ24597481

While I will wax on and on about how much I loved 3rd and 4th editions, 8th edition was also good. It had variety, charm, and some fun rules. Plus Grinding Advance was such a lovely rule.

@TimothyEveland GRRM's description of the Giants honestly makes me think of Sasquatch. They're furry and reclusive, and don't have much in the way of technology beyond simple stone & wooden tools. They seem to only fight when they have to, and iirc are implied to be mostly herbivores.

@AndrewZ24597481 3rd/4th was an excellent edition of the game. There are problems, sure, but there was a lot of wonderful flavor and cool scenarios. The Lost & the Damned, Deathworld Veterans, & CityFight were all very high highs in the game's history.

Fun fact, most if not all of the 3rd/4th edition codexes for Warhammer 40k are online for free if you look a bit on google. Do with this information what you will.

@Oldwargamer This deserves more buzz. The Boxer Rebellion is an absolutely fascinating period. I've got neither the space nor money for it, but man! The variety of troops involved is so cool!

@Rman_RoR Space Hulk is a classic for a good reason. The rules & theme are simple and easy to grasp, but the game is challenging enough to keep you coming back. I also really enjoyed Deathwatch: Overkill, which is very similar but about fighting a Genestealer Cult in a campaign setting.

ror.main.jp/room108.htm

@therimjobreaper The flashback mechanic was both darkly hilarious and completely on point. "Wait, I'm innocent!" "So were they."

remember when they made a punisher video game and used manhunt as a basis for inspiration. that singlehandedly gets the character better than everything the mcu has done with him

@DavidOttlinger @ChrisExpTheNews I think Guinness played up his rep as a Star Wars hater because he was a bit embarrassed that it was his most famous film. You watch something like Dr. Zhivago or Bridge on the River Kwai and you can see why he'd rather be remembered for those than as a space wizard.

Lucas dropped off the script in his dressing room. Guinness thought the script was ass but recognized Lucas' name as the young upstart who did American Graffiti and he basically did it on a lark to support a young person he knew had potential. ... We can't, we don't know how
The Sting@TheStingisBack

Something we rarely consider about Star Wars (1977): imagine being an older moviegoer and seeing Alec Guinness (born today in 1914) as Obi-Wan Kenobi. What the hell was this titan of stage and screen doing in a “B-movie” sci‑fi flick? Being awesome, that’s what.

@NornQueenKya How does this resolve in the current edition? Does the space marine stand a chance, or is he doomed by the bucket-o'-dice?

@furious_quill01 @amadaoffor Bingo. He confesses to treason to spare Sansa's life. He can't recant the confession & demand trial by combat once he hears the sentence. I doubt Joff would've honored that request anyway.

@amadaoffor No,trial of combact is for only when your crimes are in question or no prove to judge you as a criminal,so you can get away if you win the trial. But Ned Stark has already declared his treason to the public

@pewpewpizdec Euron Greyjoy has a suit of magic armor & an eye patch & he's super smart & evil & he hates his stupid big brother and he's got magic powers and he's been to all the super secret places and he can control krakens and dragons and he's way more badass than the Others. (I love him)

@genospsychosis @zweiwalker89607 It absolutely is. Luke assumes Yoda will be physically impressive & a "great warrior" because he's young and ignorant. Yoda has to teach him that there is more than one form of strength. (Though the PT kinda ruins it by making Yoda a living hurricane in combat.)

@zweiwalker89607 I think even the whole idea of making the mentor character a small green frog Muppet was meant to be somewhat subversive

I feel like things have gotten distorted over years of discourse because I feel like "Luke will be in superhero mode" (whatever that may refer to), or even very happy, is not exactly what people expected? Yoda was a very solemn and serious presence once he dropped the mask.

In retrospect, this does not look like a man who is happy or interested in training a student. Idk why anyone, including 2015 me, thought that he would be in happy Jedi Master superhero mode in the next film

@cantdeal6 Killzone is especially egregious, because they also go out of their way to explain that the Helghast have a completely legitimate grievance with the protagonists. They might go too far in their revenge, but them wanting Vekta back makes sense!

@Cugu00 *Of course, the Clones and the Kerberos Panzer Cops are in fact far from "Heroes", but they are the protags in their respective stories. Master Chief is definitely a hero in all senses of the term in Halo 1 though.

@Cugu00 Clone Wars-era SW. Clones are a tacti-cool military force, vs mostly dorky Droids (with exceptions). Halo 1. Cool space marine vs. rainbow-colored aliens & their panicky underlings. Jin-Roh. The rebels aren't dorky, but they're ordinary people against gasmask super soldiers.*
