Belfast's paramilitaries will be out tonight protesting against the attempted beheading of a Belfast man by a Somalian. In the face of this (I expect the weaponry to be more potent than the wheelie bins deployed in Southampton) the government is likely to fold and remove problem migrants and illegals from these communities, just as they did in Ballymena, and move the migrants to non-British parts of Britain Other communities across the UK will then look at Belfast and Ballymena and see that paramilitary groups are the only way to get the government to listen. Get ready for a bumpy decade.

It is so easy demonstrate the fallacious reasoning here. 1. There are plenty of examples of mixed race kids being fully culturally assimilated into many different cultures. 2. If, as you say, mixed race kids are strangers to both cultures then why would you not say that mixed race kids can’t be part of black culture? 3. Think of the number of people who are surprised to find they had a white or black ancestor in DNA testing and yet somehow their race didn’t determine their culture.

You’re missing the point. I’m not talking about whether he will or will not be accepted but whether he is culturally white, whatever that means. If cultures followed were determined by race, as you claim, the surely caucasians would have the same culture wherever they live. This is demonstrably untrue and there are many many examples of adopted children being fully and inextricably part of the host culture. Besides, you haven’t made any allowance for the fact that most people who describe themselves as black have white ancestors. Many are half Caucasian so where do they sit in the racial deterministic worldview?

@DickyRoe @SamLovesEngland Asian culture has similar roots, its depicted in their architecture and practices, Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, Vietnam all have significant overlap. Races cannot integrate, that white Vietnamese will always be other, he is physically defined by it. No different to acting.

We all live in subcultures of the human culture. If cultures followed from race, as people here have argued, then the same race would have the same culture and people from different races couldn’t assimilate to anything other than a ‘black culture’. I know we find it odd when we see a Caucasian Vietnamese children and somehow think they are less Vietnamese. They are in fact fully culturally Vietnamese with no hint of ‘white culture’ because race doesn’t determine culture.

Why is race the issue? I would agree with that. Assimilation and is key and it can only happen at a certain rate. We have far exceeded that rate but a positive case for immigration with respect to the host nation still needs to be made irrespective of that. The only case I ever hear made is about how fair it is for the migrants, as though that should be our concern at all.

I don’t disagree with those data at all. My point is that when you remove everyone from black ghetto culture and measure criminality between whites and blacks from Africa and 5he Caribbean, those differences largely disappear. We see the same correlation but the difference is that you are a racial existentialist and I’m not, for the most part. I think culture within black ghetto households is far more explanatory than race itself.

They've consistently had about 8x the murder rate of whites, for a very long time now. People are different. These are basic facts. We can in fact speak of their propensity for murder as a group.

Indians (particularly Sikhs) are much lower but black immigrants from any country are more likely to get into criminality. The problem with then jumping to the conclusion, based on a correlation, that it is race is that it removes your ability to talk about the cultural changes that are necessary. You’re grasping at straws now. If culture is created by race, how do you explain the same culture shared by races and races producing so many different cultures. Compare Swedes and the Irish. There are undoubtedly differences with race, colour being the most obvious. IQ is possibly another, but we aren’t allowed to talk about that unless we are acknowledging how much more intelligent the Chinese and Ashkenazi Jews are than whites.
