In my latest column for @Bruegel_org I argue that, on tech regulation, the EU should stop apologising and go on the offensive. The case for EU regulation killing innovation (as recently put forward by the US) is weak. (happy to engage, on bluesky) bruegel.org/first-glance/t…

From 24.20, I say: narrative path-dependency extends also to industry and MS. They repeat the same mantra since years. Instead of shooting at merger policy, telecoms (with cross-border M&A) and MS (spectrum) should work for a EU-wide market.

Suicide rates give the pulse of societies’ most structural issues. A compelling layer of analysis is gender: across **all** cultures, males are much more likely to commit suicide than females statista.app/overview/1c665…

@DigitalMarioM wrote an opinion piece arguing that we should be concerned about the bias embedded in artificial intelligence. He says that "Biases are not only embedded in the design of the algorithm. They are also external to it, originating in societal biases." But how can we tackle it? Le parole di Piantedosi sono ignobili. Stupisce la pochezza dell’uomo. E ci ricorda che, per quanto alta sia, la carica rivestita in sé dica poco o niente dello spessore intellettuale di chi la ricopre.

@1Br0wn @sven_giegold If it starts banning links to rival platforms as was previously suggested. But then again arguing that Twitter holds a dominant position in the market is another question.

Call from @sven_giegold to initiate a market investigation to designate Twitter as a DMA gatekeeper is very…ambitious. Second point on pressing the EC for a 102 abuse of dominance probe could have more substance to it, based on Twitter’s recent actions.

@jcremer True - but to have such effect, you still need a concerted action, I believe... ;-)

Seems to me that everyone's reaction to Twitter's new policy has been: let's go somewhere else. There are better, realistic and effective ways to express criticism. Coordinate a regular Twitter-strike e.g. **no-tweet Mondays** explainer in thread 👇

4/ I propose No-Tweet-Mondays; it could be another day. I also proposed a banner; surely someone can come up with something better. Twitter employees could also join: eg slow down procedures etc. all it takes is a concerted action - feel free to share / suggest alternatives
