Crop, Forage & Turfgrass Management
Early sowing maximized pearl millet yields in semi-arid Namibia. A landrace outperformed an improved genotype when sown early, while the improved type was more stable under late sowing, challenging assumptions about landrace productivity. 🔗 doi.org/10.1002/cft2.7…

Harnessing Earth Observation to Transform Water Monitoring and Management in Africa [On screen] Prof Timothy Dube, a global leader in geospatial science and the Director of the Institute for Water Studies at the University of Western cape. In a nation and a continent where water security is paramount, Prof Dube’s work is nothing short of revolutionary. He stands at the powerful confluence of environmental science and deep tech, leveraging satellite remote sensing, machine learning, and cloud-based big data analytics to transform how we monitor and manage Africa's water. This is the 4IR in action: using immense computational power and AI to generate actionable intelligence from the skies, providing a lifeline for our semi-arid regions. As an adviser to the United Nations University and a recipient of the prestigious NSTF–Water Research Commission Award, he is ensuring that African solutions, built on African data, are leading the global conversation on climate resilience and water security. 🔗 Get the full programme and register to join the online conversation here: nstf.org.za/wp-content/upl… #NSTFproSET #4IR #AI #artificialintelligence #WaterSecurity #EarthObservation #RemoteSensing #MachineLearning #ClimateResilience #BigData #AfricanSolutions #Sustainability

Starship at Cape Canaveral: “SpaceX would launch Starship-Super Heavy from SLC-37 up to 76 times per year. This would also include 76 Starship static-fire tests, 76 Super Heavy static-fire tests, 76 Super Heavy landings, and 76 Starship landings. Approximately half of the launches would occur during daytime and half during night. It is assumed that up to 20% of the annual launches would be scrubbed (meaning cancelled or delayed until a later date and can occur at any point before launch). The large majority of scrubs would occur prior to ignition of the booster. The Super Heavy booster landings would occur within a few minutes of launch, while the Starship landings would occur upon completion of the Starship missions, which could last hours or years. Most of the landings would return to the launch site; however, several landings per year could be expendable or occur on a floating platform. This environmental analysis does not guarantee 76 launches a year.”
