Resident Evil Requiem uses path traced lighting, which is THE gold standard in lighting accuracy. If DLSS 5 offers more accurate lighting, why is it showing such drastically different lighting results vs path tracing, which is already accurate? 🤔 Is DLSS 5 potentially highly stylising, glamourising or dramatising the lighting for added impact, at the cost of authenticity and accuracy? Again, we're seeing completely different lighting in areas vs a path traced game; shadowed areas now much brighter and more specular, often losing the moody atmosphere you'd expect from an overcast, wet, glum day with low light and a train track overhead limiting light further, different facial lighting with a weird glow around faces too, new highlights on hair, faces etc. My suspicion is that like with faces, DLSS 5 isn't actually necessarily always more accurate, but instead averaging to what it thinks might be, based on its LLM/data parameters. Thus ironically potentially exaggerating lighting in areas, to being less, not more accurate, and losing some artistic value while doing so. Perhaps @digitalfoundry could answer or investigate. In other non path traced games, differences in lighting are naturally more stark, where with games like Starfield, entire shadows from clothing disappear with DLSS 5, like from the cap in this video example.

PlayStation will be dropping the “PlayStation Network” and “PSN” branding by September 2026. “We’d like to inform you that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has strategically decided to phase out the terms “PlayStation Network” and “PSN” across our platform in order to properly capture the breadth of our evolving digital services. What’s changing and timeline. The upcoming changes are purely visual and will not introduce any technical alterations to our offerings. To simplify and unify branding, the terms “PlayStation Network” and “PSN” will be phased out across all SIE assets by September 2026. All features currently associated with PSN, including core network features such as friends, multiplayer, and trophies, will remain unaffected and available to players. You’ll be notified ahead of changes coinciding with the Technical Requirements Checklist (TRC) update in the fall of 2026. Note: PS5 DevNet access is required to view TRC documentation. At that time, you’ll need to align with the updated TRC and branding guidelines to ensure the removal of PSN instances from all future releases, assets, and external service interfaces.”

@TheCartelDel @beyond_fps @GeorgeCrudo Most likely, they entered into a marketing agreement centered on future technologies without clearly defining what would be developed or establishing any ethical boundaries or restrictions.

So ... turns out that those studios that "made" those DLSS 5 clips didn't know anything about it, either. It was obviously Nvidia, hence why they all look the same.

@Chris_TV_Live Platform owners rigorously enforce even the smallest details when approving physical discs/cards releases, yet when it comes to preventing incomplete or unfinished games from shipping on those same discs, they often seem to look the other way.

Saw a physical release for Starfield on PS5 was announced. The game was 126GB’s on Series X upon release. I am expecting the PS5 copy to have one disc and require a download just like the Oblivion remake did.

Pearl Abyss flew somebody over to the house of John Linneman (Digital Foundry) to give him the opportunity to spend some time with the console version of Crimson Desert: "They came to my house with the game. It's like, remember those old commercials for the Wii, where they would be like, 'Wii would like to play,' and then they show up at your door? That's literally how this went. It was just honestly incredible." youtube.com/watch?v=wtbka5…
