I'm glad that married Christians with kids celebrate their joy in family life and share that it's the best thing they've ever experienced. I want them to keep doing that. What I wish they would stop doing is declaring it the highest calling that anyone can have and that anyone who doesn't have that life will never be as happy as they are. God doesn't give marriage and parenthood to everyone. Many Christians pray and seek and try to obtain it and never get it. So we need to work on our contentment and finding meaning and joy in the roles that God has ordained for us, which can be hard, when we wanted Him to assign us married life and parenthood. And then we get this message from our fellow Christians - that the very best we can do with our lives will never be as good as what they're doing with theirs. Please don't do this. What you have is already obviously wonderful; all you need to do to honor God with it is honor your spouse/kids and celebrate them. You don't need to also tell us that you think your calling is higher than ours and that raising a family makes you more generous and giving than we are. It only tempts you with pride and us with envy, and it dishonors the God that we're all trying to serve.

When you change Marvel to cater to women, and the women just keep liking their own girl movies. Who could have seen this coming.

@MaeOfFable OH MY GOSH, what happened to blue liquid! I cringe physically when they use red, even if I'm watching alone. It's horrible.

Decorum, yes, decorum! We don't want graphic commercials of sexual recklessness, visible underarms, bikini lines and red liquid on products! Even some diaper commercials now make me feel far more queasy than I ever had changing a baby's blown out diaper.

@MaeOfFable YES. Same with sanitary product commercials and drug commercials for sex-related illnesses. I miss decorum and embarrassment.

Tuesday afternoon at a pub by the canal, somewhere in London. My eldest daughter has come over to bring a powerful vacuum cleaner over for my youngest daughter to vacuum all the glass from her boat. Wonderful to be with them both and of course, love a cuddle with my beautiful granddaughter. We’ve actually had a good laugh together today and looking on the bright side of life. Thank you very, very much for all the lovely words you’ve sent today. You’re a beautiful bunch of people. Cheers 🥂 (I promise I actually look happier than this photo may appear to make me look:)

@SDetectorist My favorite period of your country's history to study is the late 1300s. It BLOWS MY MIND that you could go out and find what I would consider a museum piece, that even predates the period that I love, and just bring it home. Your world is amazing!!!

I always like finding something a bit different, and even more so when it's a bit special. Look at the fabulous reverse of this medieval silver penny of Edward III, with a Scallop in one quarter 🥰 Minted in Reading, AD 1344 (Found 2024)

LOOK AT THIS MAP These are Illinois’ congressional districts. Democrats have gerrymandered Illinois into oblivion. Democrats are trying to do the same to Virginia. Virginia, vote 👉NO👈 on April 21st to stop VA from becoming Illinois.

@ostrachan inferior if you don’t get married. But God has provided materially and emotionally and has taught me, through some long, lonely stretches in life, that family is not the source of my value and hope – only He is.

@ostrachan my 30s that further limited my socializing. Now, in my late 40s, I’m grateful that I finished my degree and have worked steadily in business writing for over 25 years. I fulfill the “cat lady” stereotype and am probably the “sad warning” case study to many who think you’re

I don't have "hypothetical daughters," friend. I have actual daughters. I am raising them in exactly the way I lined out, having met their mother (a conservative Bible School graduate) when she was in college. College shaped her in many wonderful ways, as it did for many women I know. Just so you and others hear this, there is a better way than a fear-based paradigm to the Christian life. There are many evils out there, and sadly some women do go to college and leave their Christian background. But so too is there a grave danger in a fear-based paradigm, one that traps our girls in tight little prison cells for fear of them going wild. Ironically, a terrific way to encourage a daughter to be wild is to raise her in a suffocating home with an overbearing (often with a hair-trigger temper) father. Not every girl rebels against such a Pharasaical background, but some do. They end up being some of the wildest women out there; they hate Christianity because they received a legalistic form of it, and it made them twice a daughter of hell because of it. So: be warned, clearly and without apology, of fear-based "Christianity." There is a better way before us. It is to raise sons and daughters in godly wisdom and much carefulness, but also in the joy of Christ and the freedom of the gospel. Doing so means not adding our own legalistic rules to the Bible. We all have an inner legalist, so silencing him will actually be a gateway to much joy not only for our long-suffering wife and children, but for us. In addition, I encourage you not to concern yourself with my daughters. As their God-given protector, I assure you that there is absolutely no need for you to speak of them, think of them, or otherwise direct attention to them. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Most of the ways (3/5) Owen Strachan's hypothetical daughters have freedom is to be single.

This. All of this. Many conservatives/cultural Christians are trying to make marriage/kids a requirement for following Christ; it's simply not. God can save culture or not, through young Christian families or not. No individual Christian is bound by the expectation to marry.
Owen Strachan@ostrachan

Our daughters have freedom in Christ in many ways: 1) They can go to college 2) They can marry young if God leads them 3) God also calls some of them to singleness 4) Singleness is an honorable calling before God (1 Cor. 7) 5. Their identity is not in family but in JESUS

then last week, I used some hoarded credit card points to order this absolute dream - a Lord of the Rings pen! Suddenly it's 2001 again, I'm 23, and Orlando Bloom is the love of my life (for the moment). 😆 I'm glad I took the plunge and ordered my first truly fancy fountain pen!

I had a plastic fountain pen when I was a kid. A few years ago, I bought a couple of fountain pen grab bags on etsy and ended up with a couple that I liked all right. I stuck with prefilled ink cartridges, wrote with them when I felt like it, and left it at that. But in recent
