Has the oil shock ruined your weekend? How Morrison’s scare campaign backfired on Australia LNP refused to put clean cars on our roads Instead, we're pumping dirty fuel into our tanks Even worse result in New Zealand, too thedriven.io/2026/03/15/rui… @TheDriven_io

UK now has nearly twice as many public EV chargers as petrol pumps. More than 118,000 public charge points are now available nationwide compared with around 60,800 fuel pumps. independent.co.uk/cars/electric-…

Federal & state govts now spending >$1billion a month subsidising fossil fuel - 26.3c excise holiday + state-level fuel concessions Meanwhile the only systematic “relief” for non-drivers and EV owners – free or cheap public transport explicitly ruled out
Prof Ray Wills@ProfRayWills

Excise relief socialises cost nationally while privatising direct benefit to fuel users Public transport relief socialises both cost & service access for peeps who actually depend on collective transport Aus ~$850M/mnth fuel-tax relief omits non-drivers & EV owners from benefit

Seize the day: Time to let solar “daylight saving” in batteries reduce our costs in Australia Renewables increasingly bring tight band of lower prices, and batteries, though only small but growing part of NEM supply, reduce volatility displace gas in peak reneweconomy.com.au/seize-the-day-…

Rising cost of fuel already an interest‑rate rise on households and businesses Higher Aus interest rates don’t fix inflation from rising oil prices, nor tax oil companies gaining a windfall. Who in Aus pays the price? Those who can least afford it linkedin.com/posts/raywills…

Unfortunately, @TeslaCharging & @TeslaAUNZ don't do a very good job of advertising constant price reductions of their Supercharger network. Williams & Kojunup, Western 🇦🇺, recently dropped to 49c with Albany an unbelievable 37c. Some time of use ones can be 33c. We need a "fuelwatch" for EV fast chargers.
Chris Meder@EVCurveFuturist

Petrol: $2.60/L → $20.80 per 100km My #EV: Solar → ~$0 Home (18c) → $2.48 Supercharger → $8.27 Even my worst case is still cheaper than their average. No servicing. No oil. Clean. Quiet. Fast. Reliable. This isn’t efficiency… it’s a system exit. ⚡🔋 #Bettrification

There's some knobs opposing this - if more peeps ride public transport, they won't go to servos to put fuel in their car! And those that can't use public transport and must use their car will have improved availability of fuel?🤔 #EVs bring same benefit! x.com/ProfRayWills/s…
Bloomberg@business

Two Australian states will temporarily offer free public transport to ease the effects of rising fuel costs, as prolonged hostilities in the Middle East increase supply risks bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

A decision reaching financial investment decision (FID) to build a solar farm today will result in an operating solar farm in 2028 A decision taken to build a coal-fired power station today will result in an operating coal plant in 2032 Nuclear? At least 2034, likely longer

Mark Z. Jacobson@mzjacobson

New nuclear is crazy-and useless $47.2 bil for 3.26 GW Hinkley Point C=$14.5/W vs $1/W for solar and wind And HPC will take 22 years from planning to operation (2008-2030), vs 1-3 for PV/wind Similar statistics for Vogtle Vaporware SMRs are worse theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/f…

MAGA US = more risk, less safe US safety rules turn in wrong direction MAGA tells Americans they’re “safer,” but blocks cockpit‑safety rules, guts pollution rules, kneecaps workplace & product standards so corporations less constrained, consumers more risk linkedin.com/posts/raywills…
