Wading into discourse. I adore McCarthy’s prose, but I find some of his novels (Blood Meridian and Suttree) a little lacking because of how they meander. I still like them, but the plots don’t grab me the way I want them to.

Well the thing is, a girl is going to be influenced by outside forces no matter what, a blank slate so to speak. 'Who you are' is dictated by men who've imprinted on you. Her father and brothers are the primary influence on how she is molded - and she should be further refined by her husband. Which is in part why it's so important for a woman to get married young
